Do you think that perhaps you had a faulty baptism? In the new testament some believers accepted Christ per John's teaching (John 3:16) but had a faulty baptism and because of that the Holy Ghost hadn't come to them yet. It seems that Paul had to rebaptise them to get it right so that they could receive the holy spirit that they had been missing. Do you think this could have been your problem? To reference this, it is found in Acts 19.

Baptism must be a tricky process.  Right kind of water, how you are dunked, correct religion branch, and on and on and on.  If you don't get it right it could very well be a lake of fire you will be baptised in next.

That would explain a lot. I think I will get rebaptized and see if religion makes anymore sense than it does to me now.

In the correct method, the submersion is supposed to last for an hour.

This is the best reason yet that I've heard to restrict baptism to consenting adults.

This is a very valid question and i will try my best to answer it as best i can. I happen to be a christian attending Bible College and it is something i have looked into my self. The Baptism's preformed by John the baptist was spoke of in Matthew 3:6. There some other small references to baptism in the 4 gospels of matthew, mark, luke, and john. But in comparison to the Baptism's in the book of Acts they do not apply. The baptism's in the Gospels were just an expression of faith like an animal sacrifice, they were not to recieve the Holy Spirit. Even John said this Baptism was only for forgiveness of sins in Matt. 3:11, "I baptize you with water for repentance. But after me will come a one who is more powerful than I... he will baptize with you the Holy Spirit and with fire." The Baptism's after the Gospels in the book of Acts were to recieve the Holy Spirit. Once Jesus died and rose from the dead he then assended into heaven. (Acts 1:1-11) Then he sent his Holy Spirit down to all of us. (Acts 2:1-4) From then on out the Baptism's that were preformed were for forgiveness of sins and to recieve the Holy Spirit, which is clearly stated in Acts 2:38 "Repent and be baptized, everyone of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins. And you will recieve the gift of the Holy Spirit." So to compare a faulty baptism to the baptisms of the Gospels does not make sense because they were not the same thing. In Acts 19 the people had been baptized for repentance (by john) but, not to recieve the Holy Spirit in the name of Jesus Christ. That was the problem in there baptism's. In todays baptism's there should not be an issue of John's batism and the baptism in the name of jesus cuz John is dead. The only biblically based baptism that should exists today is one that would be in Jesus Christ to recieve the Holy Spirit. So if you have been baptized today mostlikely it was into Jesus Christ and for the gift of the Holy Spirit. But honestly anyone can be dunked in some water. It is not about the dunking as much as it is opening your heart to recieving the Holy Spirit.

hope that answers the question from the bibles stand point. Smiley Smiley

well, let's see:  The holy spirit was not sent down on "all of us", only the apostles present (including one chosen by gambling, which always amuses me).  Since one can't repent if one is a child or mentally handicapped, does this mean that all of the child baptisms and baptisms fail?  Funny how your god has such bizaare rules to keep various people out of its heaven.  And of course, you finish with the usual "OneTrueChristiantm" nonsense as if you and only you know what God "really" meant and that you "know" that those who ceased being Christians didn't "really" open their hearts.
