Rod Dreher - whom I normally detest - is a pretty typical xian who takes it very, very seriously. But he recently wrote a piece about this. http://www.theamericanconservative.com/dreher/the-sacrilegious-sarah-palin/
Not only is this woman, putatively a Christian, praising torture, but she is comparing it to a holy sacrament of the Christian faith.
If I thought that kind of hateful declaration and abuse of the Christian religion was what conservatism stood for, I wouldn’t be able to call myself a conservative.
He was attacked for that by other conservatives. He made a rebuttal.http://www.theamericanconservative.com/dreher/populism-palin-torture/
Think, people, of the torture victim you and I call Lord.
I think most people do not see the cross as endorsing widespread torture, but more as a reminder of the tortured. They side with jesus H, not the Romans, right? So I really think your thesis is a stretch, Nam. I think that is where Rod and other xians who find Palin's crass statement sacreligious and offensive are coming from.
Palin said something very very silly.
It was not silly. Silly implies frivolity. That minimizes what she said. What she said was very serious. Horrific. Terrible. Diabolical. Not silly.
