That is one of my current favorite quotes.  Thanks for the message!
Smart people believe weird things because they are skilled at defending beliefs they arrived at for non-smart reasons. --Michael Shermer

The history of religion is a long attempt to reconcile old custom with new reason, to find a sound theory for an absurd practice.  --Sir James George Frazer

Excellent point, OP.  Goes to show that believing in something without questioning it can be detrimental to so many.  I love Pat Condell's videos too, about faith not deserving respect.

The truth is absolute. Life forms are specks of specks (...) of specks of dust in the universe.
Why settle for normal, when you can be so much more? Why settle for something, when you can have everything?

Are you an atheist, or a muslim who prayed for something like that to happen?
I've left WWGHA now, so do everyone else a favour and don't bother replying to my old posts and necromancing my threads.

If Mohammed won't go to the mountain...
The word "god" should be abandoned and a set of non-prejudicial alternatives found. An awful lot of arguments would simply disappear when folk realize they've simply been fighting over etymology.
