Hi Carocrazy, welcome back!
I went back to read the entire thread and I have to commend you for your courage to question and  amend your belief system, since you apparently  previously  believed those bible stories as  literally true. Welcome to the rational-thinking world. It's too bad that you have to hold back your re-born worldview from your family (it seems for now, anyway).

 It's difficult when one feels a need to keep part of oneself hidden from loved ones. (especially out of fear of expected negative reactions and possible and/or imagined consequences). It may be more difficult to endure if you're still at home, living with family. If you do currently live under parental rule & roof, time is your ally as you seek out and meet other non-theistic individuals and find  similar interests. I am happy to see evidence that one more (former) theist reconsidered their indoctrination, and actually did return and say the member's comments in this forum made a difference.
I hope to see some of your future posts around the boards.

Amazing.
Well done. If your journey out of superstition is anything like mine you're in for buckets of wonder and appreciation for life, made more sweet (and painful) by the knowledge of it's impermanence.
I struggled (and am only now after 3 years coming to grips with) my loss of immortality. There's some good help out there if you do find yourself anxious about not having heaven to look forward to. I started a thread over at isgodimaginary.com dealing with that if you want to check it out pm me and I'll send you the link.

Hi carocrazy, welcome back and welcome to reality!  Your story is very inspirational and you should be proud of yourself.  I went through the same kind of process maybe 20 years or so ago, when I was a teenager.  It probably was a little bit easier for me though, because, despite going to catholic school, most of my friends and family weren't particularly religious.  It's much more difficult to break free from this cult when you have to commit social suicide to do so.  Just keep in mind that there are probably many in your congregation and family that feel as you do.

I am looking forward to seeing your future contributions to this forum.

Thank you Pastafarian, but I don't really need help with that.  I don't have a problem with death -- lack of immortality -- as long as I seize every moment of my life that I possibly can, I even wrote a song about that :3.

Thank you Positiveaob, thank you for the support and planting the idea in my head that there may be others in my family that have come to the real world as well.  It is a very reassuring thought.

EDIT: Mr. Friday I almost left you out.  I will not say thank you to you, I have given two to everyone and that means two to you as well.  To you, I say sorry.  You took the time to type all that out, to help me, and I will admit -- I never read the full post until recently.  Once again I am sorry for that, that post really is golden.

I guarantee you're not the only one who feels this way in your family or amongst your friends.  Just set the example by leading a good moral life, argue using basic logic and reasoning, and eventually those around you that havent been completely brainwashed will start to come around.  And stick around this website and contribute.  Maybe you can make a difference for someone else.
