That's what we have to decide. Have we been too careful and too nice to
those around us who believe in the great magical power fairy in the sky?
Good arguments are better than name-calling any day. But, on the other
hand, who can reason with a faithhead? Perhaps a little disrespect would
be the incentive some of them need to take their minds to the cleaners.
Humanists and atheists have remained silent too long. And this only
helps those who are busy trying to foist organized ignorance on all of
us. We must let go of the traditional respect for religion--a respect
that most of us have shown even though we may not be believers. Faith
should not be exempt from rational scrutiny. Reason is uniquely human.
Reason is what defines us. If we don't have it, or we don't use it, we
are being something less than fully human.
