Thanks. I am no longer an idiot. [#1222]
« on: April 03, 2009, 06:37:08 PM »

GllVideo, I used to be a Christian. I never really had any problems until I had a thought. I can't remember how it came, or how fast it came, but after some time it unraveled into, "What if I am wrong?" I remembered a video I saw a long time ago that I couldn't rationalize (that I just closed and ignored) called "The greatest optical illusion ever!". I watched it again, and watched more of your (and FightingAtheist's) videos, and went to a few places on the internet. After some thinking and mental debating, after about a month, I considered myself an atheist.

I would just like to say thank you. You made things a bit easier for me.

Welcome to rational thought.  It is wonderful to be free from the delusion.

This must be how a Christian feels when they save a "soul."  I enjoy this feeling too AndroidAR.

You ought to drop by the forum.

At the very least, tell your friends about us!
If we come together and do not fight over religion, class and borders then we hold the key to a peaceful world. There are two possible futures in store; either a March of power and greed or a March of a unified human race.

That was my message in OP's post, I came to the forums when I got a youtube message back saying my story was posted here.
I feel really nice when I reread my message and the replies.

That's great to hear!  Were there any other questions in particular that were on your mind that helped you to overcome religious dogma?

iliveanddie,

I read on another one of your posts that you are only in the 8th grade!  I must say, for your age I am very impressed at your language skills and your level of rational thought.  ;)

If you decide to hang around here for a while I'm sure you'll fit right in.

That's great to hear!  Were there any other questions in particular that were on your mind that helped you to overcome religious dogma?
The main question that got me thinking was "Why is my god just as believable as other gods?  Why does my religion seem no better or provable than other religions, like Islam or archaic gods, like Zeus?"  What also got me thinking was that there was never any proof.  One day I said to myself, "Wait, I say to myself that I shouldn't accept something without proof.  What about religion?"

These questions went ignored for a long time.  Then I was watching an episode of Family Guy and remembered those questions when atheism was brought up.  Then I went and watched the "The Greatest Optical Illusion Ever!" video, and the message I sent to GIIVideos explains the rest.

Yes, those are very good questions for anyone who will allow themselves to think about it for more than one second.  Thanks for your response.  I'm just trying to figure out which arguments work best at convincing people to question their religious dogma.

Hey guys, rational thought made me a Christian.  Lack of thought propogated within me a negligence toward God.  When I thought, I was saved.  We both reasoned, but came to different conclusions.  Who are you to believe that your conclusion is right, and mine false?  Is it simply because it is your conclusion?  I'll be praying for you.  You'll be surprised what God can do.

Lighthouse, you claimed that in this thread. how about responding to what we have to say to you.

Yet another lie, which was dismantled in a previous post.

Lighthouse, if you are not going to respond or reply to direct posts and direct questions, you will probably need to find another site to troll.

No, rational thought made you a Deist because you considered a type of First Cause argument and came to the conclusion that there must be a Creator, which is at best a 50-50 probability.  We have no idea what made you a Christian because you haven't answered us yet.  Whatever it turns out to be, I'm betting it wasn't rational thought.
