Hello - an introduction
« on: April 24, 2018, 05:26:36 PM »
Hi, I wanted to type an introduction about myself.  I looked at it and went "tl;dr" so I broke it up into more paragraphs.

I am a regular poster over at the fstdt.com site (Fundies Say the Darndest Things).  I still like that site very much but recently it's had connection issues and hasn't been too reliable so I'm looking for another place where I can discuss the unreasonable postings I encounter on a few sites (more about those later).

I don't want to reveal TOO much about myself because I have been stalked in the past by some of the aformentioned people...in fact I tend to use a different name in a few places.

But I am an agnostic, I was raised Catholic and never really signed on with it (got first communion but was never confirmed).  I didn't leave Christianity due to any particular problems with the Catholic church, just more Christianity in general.   It all came apart for me around the time that I realized there was no reason to believe the Bible was divinely inspired.

Having said that, I don't come down on Christians unless they get hung up on the things that to my mind make them hateful, i.e. being anti-choice, homophobic, sexist, racist...and yes, even anti-Catholic.  It's funny to me that if an atheist attacks Catholics I couldn't care less...I'm probably in agreement, but when a fundamentalist Christian does, I see red.  Want to go after Catholics for something?  The pedophilia problems?  I have no issue with that at all, but I don't care that they (gasp) baptize infants.  It's amazing how many fundies get hung up on that.  Who cares?

My main reason for being here is that I am a regular poster/lurker on a few websites and channels where I have gotten into the habit of disagreeing with fundamentalist Christians.  The discussions and disagreements are interesting to me, but I find that lots of people really don't want me (and people like me) there are all.  A common comment is, "This is a Christian website!  Why are you here?"  To which I will tell them, to see how Christian your behavior is.  I never call names (doing so results in being banned, and it's interesting how some of the Christians, who are supposed to be so righteous and good, hurl more slander and epithets than anyone else, and manage to NOT get banned for it).  I simply try to find out what is really at the root of their anger, and invariably end up being called Satan for doing so.

I have to say, before someone else says it first, that spending time on these sites isn't everyone's cup of tea.  Friends have told me they'd rather cut their own heads off than try to reason with these bigots, but to me it's not about getting through to them...to me, all the world's a stage, and I'm just trying to put on a good show.  Who knows, if it saves some kid who's reading from trying to get conversion therapy done to change his or her sexuality, it is worth it.  BUT - yes, I know it's not a sport everyone would want to get into.

Anyway, I will probably direct people to the kinds of bigotry I'm encountering...just for your viewing "pleasure" as I have done at fstdt.  I hope it generates discussion.

I am a musician.  I like dogs.  I live by myself, but lots of friends and family keep me occupied.  I like cooking.  I keep to myself a lot of the time.  I consider myself easy going.

1. Welcome.
2. I was Catholic as well (1st thru 12th grade with nuns).
3. How did you find this site?

I often get mad at fuddies attacking Catholics as well.  Catholics were the original (like McDonald's).  Without Catholics they would not have their magic book.   Oh, wait, maybe I do need to attack Catholics.
Yo, put that in your pipe and smoke it.  Quit ragging on my Lord.

1) Thank you.
2) I never saw nuns...weird eh?  Maybe I just didn't notice them (haha)
3) I found it today when Googling something but don't remember what.  The funny thing is I have the strangest sense of deja vu here, wonder if I was here once before a long time ago?

Maybe in another life.

Did you ever ask any of your fuddies on the other sites why God hates amputees?  He never cures any.

Welcome Benoit.  Hope you enjoy the stay.  I know what you mean about Christian web sites.  Rapture ready, as an example,  has a very long list of humanity not welcome to their small version of Christianity.

Maybe I'll do it and direct you to the enlightened responses I get.

Oh yes.  Rapture Ready is GREAT fun.  So is David J. Stewart, the convicted child abuser.

Hi there and welcome!

I’m sorry to hear about your stalking experiences. I had a weird online experience last year that suggested something like that might be starting up. I ended up blocking the person! I also know somebody else who has had it happen to them in person before. Better to be safe than sorry when it comes to such situations.

I was raised a Pentecostal fundamentalist Christian and we considered Catholics "not true Christian's "who did obviously unbiblical things like praying to saints and confessing to priests.  IRS funny how people in one religion considers everyone else to be obviously wrong
