Winter medical myths 'debunked'
« on: December 19, 2008, 03:47:22 PM »
It may feel like the aspirin, fry-up or even "hair of the dog" is helping to alleviate that hangover caused by over-indulging the night before.

But in fact there is no such thing as a "cure" for a hangover, say researchers from Indiana University in the US.

Sure there's a cure. Don't get the hangover in the first place.  ;)

I think i've cut down on hangovers by following three rules.

1. Drink clear, quality liquors with as little sugar and additives as possible.
2. Don't just stop drinking suddenly, taper off slowly. Start drinking less alcohol and start drinking more water. Keep drinking less and less alcohol and more and more water until bed.
3. Keep hydrated through the night, and if you have to get up early, take some pain relievers before going to bed, or during the night.

And for pete's sake, you don't have to finish the whole bottle, or whatever.

In my days I've had plenty to drink (and a huge variety of nothing but hard liquor) and not once have I gotten a hangover... now that I think about it, I usually feel great and full of energy the next morning.  Guess that's one benefit of being Irish  ;)

I've been a drinker for a long time. Beer, liquor, anything basically.

I've had what might have been a hangover once. In Cancun. (The bars there have huge cover charges but after that they're open bars) It was either all the tequila or that weird lunch menu.  :-\ ;)

3. Keep hydrated through the night

That seems to be the key, at least for me.

I'm lucky.  I get sick and barf long before I reach the point of total out-of-my-head intoxication.  Since heaving is very unpleasant, and  something I try to avoid whenever possible, I don't drink so much anymore.
I stopped believing for a little while this morning. Journey is gonna be so pissed when they find out...

Interestingly, i drank half a bottle of Evan Williams Egg Nog last night, along with a multitude of various other alcoholic beverages. I didn't have the slightest hangover today, and i saw something on the telly this afternoon about egg nog being a cure for hangovers.

Last Saturday night I went through a whole bottle of Smirmoff (Yeah I mangled that) Apple twist vodka. By myself (750 milliters). No hangover. Only regret of the party is the hot black girl decided not to go home with me. Shame I blew off the so-so girl to chase what I thought was a sure thing (and probally lost a sure thing as a result). I HATE HINDSIGHT!!!!!!!!!!
