Tip on how I deal with the quoting tags.
« on: April 25, 2014, 10:37:14 AM »
I looked at the quoting tutorial here: http://whywontgodhealamputees.com/forums/index.php/topic,16778.0.html

Since the topic is locked, if the Admins think my tip is of value, they can strip the message below and put it over there.

Many times when I am replying to a post, I find that I want to break apart the quotes of the post I am replying to so that I can address individual points as they appear in the text. I use this procedure:

Open a notepad text window on the desktop.

When you have a block of a quote you want to break up, such as this:

Paragraph 1.
Sentence 1. Sentence 2. Sentence 3. Sentence 4. Sentence 5. Sentence 6. Sentence 6. Sentence 7. Sentence 8. Sentence 9. Sentence 10.

Paragraph 2.
Sentence 1. Sentence 2. Sentence 3. Sentence 4. Sentence 5. Sentence 6. Sentence 6. Sentence 7. Sentence 8. Sentence 9. Sentence 10.

You will see this in the edit window:
Code: [Select]
[quote author=Habenae Est Dominatus link=topic=26669.msg611209#msg611209 date=1398030710]Paragraph 1.
Sentence 1. Sentence 2. Sentence 3. Sentence 4. Sentence 5. Sentence 6. Sentence 6. Sentence 7. Sentence 8. Sentence 9. Sentence 10.

Paragraph 2.
Sentence 1. Sentence 2. Sentence 3. Sentence 4. Sentence 5. Sentence 6. Sentence 6. Sentence 7. Sentence 8. Sentence 9. Sentence 10.[/quote]

Copy the appropriate tags to the notepad so that it looks like this:
Code: [Select]
[/quote]

[quote author=Habenae Est Dominatus link=topic=26669.msg611209#msg611209 date=1398030710]

Then when you need to break a quote, go to the notepad, do a CTRL+A, CTRL+C. Select the spot where you want to break the quote and do a CTRL+V. You can then start your rebuttal/reply in that space.

Here is what it will look like:
Paragraph 1.
Sentence 1. Sentence 2. Sentence 3. Sentence 4. Sentence 5. Sentence 6. Sentence 6. Sentence 7. Sentence 8. Sentence 9. Sentence 10.
Reply goes here.

Paragraph 2.
Sentence 1. Sentence 2. Sentence 3. Sentence 4. Sentence 5.
Reply goes here.

Sentence 6. Sentence 6. Sentence 7. Sentence 8. Sentence 9. Sentence 10.

Here is what the code for the above looks like:
Code: [Select]
[quote author=Habenae Est Dominatus link=topic=26669.msg611209#msg611209 date=1398030710]Paragraph 1.
Sentence 1. Sentence 2. Sentence 3. Sentence 4. Sentence 5. Sentence 6. Sentence 6. Sentence 7. Sentence 8. Sentence 9. Sentence 10. [/quote]Reply goes here.

Paragraph 2.
Sentence 1. Sentence 2. Sentence 3. Sentence 4. Sentence 5. [/quote]Reply goes here.

[quote author=Habenae Est Dominatus link=topic=26669.msg611209#msg611209 date=1398030710]Sentence 6. Sentence 6. Sentence 7. Sentence 8. Sentence 9. Sentence 10.[/quote]

Not bad.  Thanks for that.

I prefer a line break (two, actually), though, between the end quote tag and my reply.  That makes it easier for others to quote me if they are so inclined.

What's true is already so. Owning up to it does not make it worse.
