Here I come.
« on: April 04, 2014, 07:09:32 PM »
I've silently been reading this forum for a few months, and also check almost daily whether I'm at school or on the road. I think im ready to join the discussion.

I'm young, compared to the ages of those who I see posting. I am a junior in highschool, currently.

I was born in Punjab, India. About five to six years ago, I came to America. I was prominently Sikh.

When people ask me "What religion am I?", I say "Sikh, by values."

I am only Sikh from the values I've gained, the lessons I've learned, and the wisdom I've been given by my society.

In no way am I Sikh by a belief in a god. I am an Athiest. I reject the belief in any god, solely out of common sense. Such a notion is self contradictory at best. Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, and any other "higher power" religions are no better.

Many times I've debated with a Christian friend of mine, and eventually, he didnt want to argue any further. He doesn't accept evolution, and I feel in no way that I've won.

I see many heated debates here, and hope to see any real arguments posed by theists. Although, I do love reading Junebug's threads (congrats on the good news, by the way).

So I hope to be accepted here, learn more about the origin of the Universe, and leave with ever increasing curiosity.

If you've perused then you should no I'm an asshole, and admit to it. So, don't say stupid things like on that other topic, and we'll get along fine.

Welcome to the forum!  This is a great place to come and learn and explore new ideas.  I have learned a lot from many knowledgeable people here.  I wish I was a smart as you when I was in high school! It took me until I was 30 to figure out my atheism.

Welcome to the forum, Defiance. And a belated welcome to America (whichever part you ended up in); it ain't what it used to be, but that isn't always a bad thing.

Haters only hate the people they can't have
Or the people they can't be

Haters only hate the people they can't have
Or the people they can't be

So deep... Wait, the other thing. Shallow. That's it. False dichotomy. People hate for various reasons. I don't hate any person (or any living thing, really), so I won't provide an example based on myself. However, I will give an example. I hate to follow Godwin's law (sort of), but I want to give a relatable example. People hated (and many still hate) Hitler and the Nazis. Did they (people) hate them (Nazis) because they couldn't have them? No. Did they hate them because they couldn't be them? Also no. People hated Nazis for (at least) one simple reason: they were fucking evil.

Welcome to the forum! I find Judaism and Sikhism very alike in values. I am a jew by "Values". May you have fun and learn lots here.  ;D
