Creationism, the documentary reveals, isn’t a harmless, compartmentalized fantasy. It’s a suffocating, oppressive worldview through which believers must interpret reality—and its primary target is children.

Excellent link, great article. Sadly, I'm not a TV person, so I won't be able to watch the HBO documentary, but I'm sure it will be interesting.

Not everyone is entitled to their own opinion. They're all entitled to mine though.

I haven't read an article quite that idiotic in awhile.

"Death, suffering, pain, sorrow, disease: These, creationists inform us, are what await any skeptic, anyone who questions the word of God."

No Christian I know of would assert that skepticism is the path to hell. Granted, there may be some who do but I'd have to see some data confirming that it is some widespread problem that threatens the good of humanity.

"Creationists teach their children not only that evolution is evil, but that studying evolution, even thinking about it, is a sin that leads the soul to eternal damnation."

Same thing here. Where does he get this nonsense?

They insist that evolution has robbed us of our humanity. But in reality, it’s their twisted gospel that aims to strip us of the very thing that makes us human.

Evolution has robbed us of our humanity? Who did he hear this from?

That really is a bad commentary written by someone who is doing nothing but making a series of unsubstantiated and sensationalist claims. It's pure emotion on display in nothing more than a poorly written rant.

An Omnipowerful God needed to sacrifice himself to himself (but only for a long weekend) in order to avert his own wrath against his own creations who he made in a manner knowing that they weren't going to live up to his standards.

And you should feel guilty for this. Give me money.

A god is like a rock: it does absolutely nothing until someone or something forces it to do something. The only capability the rock has is doing nothing until another force compels it physically to move.

Evolution has robbed us of our humanity? Who did he hear this from?

From any creationist who scoffs at taxonomy which includes humans in the homonids, or apes.  And I've heard that quite frequently.

What is the significance of doubt in a belief system that maintains blind faith is the key to salvation?

Same thing here. Where does he get this nonsense?

the homeschoolers observed in the documentary, I would guess.

Creationists.  "evolution teaches we descended from monkeys.  Well, I didn't come from no monkey.  If you tell people they came from monkeys, they they will behave like monkeys."  I've heard this from numerous fundies.  The stupid quote from Pastor Joe Coffey where he suggests that if evolution is true, there is no morality.  The fat guy in the video clip who did not like the idea that people are animals.  etc.  wtf?  Were you not paying any attention at all?

Creationists seem to think that if evolution were true, that would mean we are somehow less, because we were not god's special animals.

Your objections are dismissed.

Proverbs 3:5 does as well.

Ken Ham tried to push that same idea during the debate with Bill Nye.
