I'm curious how the spam bots manage to register - how do they overcome the requirement to type the letters? How do they know which answer to give to the question?

it's actually pretty easy, all it takes is for the person who wrote the bot to visit the registration page and see the question.
I could write one up in C++ and Qt in a few minutes, but I'd rather not for obvious reasons.

Couldn't that be overcome by setting the registration page to have a new question every day? And what about the letters that need to be copied? Does it just generate milions of combiations of letters until it gets the right one?
