When Christianity was first adopted by the Roman Empire, one of the first Christian laws was a law about rape which shows how dangerous religion can be when it gains control.
When a rape was reported the man was found and put to death, as you would expect from Christians obsessed with sex. Here is the catch. The Christians thought that the man's soul had gone straight to hell because of original sin and that was the fault of the woman, so the woman was also put to death. You read that correctly. The woman was put to death for being raped. Of course this caused a problem that rapes were no longer reported so just for practical reasons, the law was soon changed so that women were no longer put to death.
People were put to death just because of an idea about god and religion.
