Since all three items apply to me, they can't do anything. Though they have tried a lot, and I know they are really depressed about it. Also I don't give them enough time to bring families home to see me, during my few days in the country. If you don't know what I mean by brining families, look in to the concept of arranged marriages in Pakistan. That's a whole another story. In any case, I keep giving them hope that one day after my brother finishes his MBA, I will help him find a well-paid job overseas, and I will move back to Pakistan permanently to find a husband (I lie, just about the returning to Pakistan part. I will of course help my siblings if I can).

Sorry if I wrote too much again, but basically these are the circumstances that allow me to be who I am.

No need to apologize; thank you for sharing as much as you have. Your account gives a glimpse into a very different culture, especially to those like me who haven't traveled widely.

You certainly seem to have made the most of your circumstances; bravo for you.

You are wise to be cautious about who you reveal yourself to. Stay safe at all costs. We need voices like yours, and far more importantly, your family is relying on you so much!

Hi Sam

Thanks for sharing.

Since the war, due to this internal crisis, our government had to put all its focus on fighting against Taliban and rebels,

I'm not sure if you know, but in case you didn't, Pakistan's InterServices Intelligence (ISI) helped create the Taliban.  The Taliban is seen by the ISI as a critical weapon, key to Pakistan's defense.  So it is likely that they still are trying to maintain some control over them.  It is also likely they have continued to give refuge and support to al Qaeda.

this is a long, but excellent essay reporting on when and why things went to hell in Pakistan: http://www.nytimes.com/2014/03/23/magazine/what-pakistan-knew-about-bin-laden.html?_r=0
more on that:

It is also important to note that the ISI is mainly autonomous, out of the control of the rest of government.  So, Pakistan is sort of fighting both sides of its civil war, one government agency against the others.

I think the US should have invaded Pakistan and Saudi Arabia instead of Iraq.  They had far more to do with 9/11 and the flourishing of terrorism.

^^^Indeed.

VP Joe Biden just got in trouble (again) for telling the truth (again). The Saudis and other US "allies" in the region are funding the extremists. Osama bin Laden was a Saudi. Al Qaeda is a Saudi creation. Until we deal with that, we are just going to keep pushing the terrorists into different countries to recruit more of the unemployed, disaffected and easily swayed.

But we will never get to source of their power, which is money as much as ideology.

Welcome!!

Welcome Samk,

I am now forced to live a life of seclusion. I cannot have any Muslims friend, or even friends from my own country. I am so glad that I live in Germany, so I am safe from persecution (for now). I still do love my family; my parents, and siblings, who are all devoted muslims. I go back to my country for a week each year to meet them. That one week each year is my happiest and the scariest.

These are the saddest lines in your post.

Agreed.  But at least she has porn!!
It's one of the reasons I'm an atheist today.  I decided to take my religion seriously, and that's when it started to fall apart for me.
