Sam Harris lectures on Free Will
« on: June 30, 2013, 06:58:47 PM »
I'm posting this here, rather than in the General forum as it is 1½hrs of concentrated clarity of thought.

There have been many posts on "Free Will" - if we added up all the minutes reading, typing and thinking (in whatever order) 1½ hrs is a short time.

Sam Harris starts to speak at 06:00.

If anyone thinks there might be free will, point them to this lecture.
Nobody says “There are many things that we thought were natural processes, but now know that a god did them.”

...if that's what you feel like doing. Otherwise, don't

I was distracted for some of it by factors outside my control, so missed out on the whole argument, but now I'm not sure if I have the free will to go back and listen again

Love Sam Harris... I always pull up one of his shorter Ted videos similar to this as to use it as a link for Christians who think that nothing but the bible can define morals.  Shorter is better when dealing with the more simple minded Christians (the majority of them) as even a short video is difficult enough to get them to watch. But at least they don't have to read which they like.

thanks for the link GB

I never had a choice in my disbelief of the idea of freewill.

I hope the universe allows me the time to watch this.

Should be compelling watching.
