Let's Make Our Own Commandments
« on: June 16, 2013, 08:37:21 AM »
My list:

Do unto others as you would have done to you.

Do not have children you don't want; use birth control for goodness sake.
when you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change

The Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster had a set of 10 that were pretty good.  I'll look for it later.
Yo, put that in your pipe and smoke it.  Quit ragging on my Lord.

Thou shalt not believe in preposterous things, especially gods.

Thou shalt believe only in things that are founded on evidence and good reason.

Thou shalt not use faith as a basis for thy beliefs, for faith is anathema to reason.

Thou shalt shalt stop using the word "faith", for it is ambiguous and misleading.

Thou shalt accept with grace those things you once believed but later turned out to be wrong.

Thou shalt update thy beliefs with better data.

Thou shalt not pollute the earth.

Thou shalt not permit corporations to take over the world.

Thou shalt not have more than two or three children.  Four or more offspring is vulgar.   Five is right out.

If anyone among you claims to know what god wants, you shall take him or her unto a psychiatric hospital and commit him or her.

How many of these topics have we had over the years? Just copy/paste your responses from back then to here.

I wonder if all these topics Junebug posts she thinks she's being "original"?

You're not.

Quote from: David Garrett Arnold
there are oceans of words aged in prayer,
against geometric lines, and cloudbeaten skies;
credulous allure—slowly captivated in hearts fair—
trees and flowers bloomed in grace upon one's eyes.

It's as original as most other topics, Nam. No need for the nasty comment.

My commandments:

* Look to the left

* Look to the right

* Look to the left again

* Then, if the road is clear of traffic, walk straight across the road (don't run). Walk straight across the road.

^^ Posted in the hope some of the Australians will remember what I am referring to ^^

It's good to know the door can still be open wide.

You need Love Nam.  Despite what you think I can love you and I do.  Anybody can love their family and friends it's loving the enemy that's important.  I'll just keep turning cheeks until you run out of mean things to say.

Thanks Magic.  Love you too man.

Do unto others as you would have done to you.

This sounded good... but what if you are a nasty bastard... or a sadist?  Then following this commandment would make you a criminal.

How about:
You shall not enslave another human for any reason, even if they "volunteer"

The manner in which you hurt a child or another person shall be the manner in which you will be punished tenfold
If xian hell really exists, the stench of the burning billions of us should be a constant, putrid reminder to the handful of heavenward xians how loving your god is.  - neopagan

Thou shalt update thy beliefs with better data.

This shall be named the "iron rule" only because "golden rule" and "platinum rule" were already taken :D

EDIT: what is it with precious metals and rules?  :?
