The Parent Rap
« on: June 11, 2013, 07:49:24 PM »
This video is making the rounds on Facebook. I've seen it before, but never watched it through to the end. It's well-produced, so it's obviously not a homegrown mom-and-dad production made over the weekend on an iMac. As a parent, I can certainly appreciate a lot of what's in this video, and it seemed a bit clean for a rap song. One thing I heard in the song jumped out at me and screamed "I WAS PRODUCED BY A CHRISTIAN ORGANIZATION" and I did a 20 second search and found that, indeed, it was produced by Right Now Media "your customizable online church video library".

Can you determine what that thing was that jumped out at me and screamed CHRISTIAN!?

"Why buy the cow if the milk is free?" seemed like an odd thing to say to toddlers.
It doesn't make sense to let go of something you've had for so long.  But it also doesn't make sense to hold on when there's actually nothing there.

Um, the fact when they used to be "cool" they used to stay up late to watch PG-13 movies (as if that's cool)?

How about daddy works, momma stays home?  Just like Abraham and Sarah!   :o
If xian hell really exists, the stench of the burning billions of us should be a constant, putrid reminder to the handful of heavenward xians how loving your god is.  - neopagan

I didn't see anything particularly Christian about that. It was okay but I'm tired of all these parody raps, especially when they are about really dull subjects like this.

That's really scraping the bottom of the barrel. Housewives are hardly exclusive to Christianity or any religion.
If God exists at all he clearly wishes to reside exclusively in the imagination.

 ^^^^^ THAT'S THE WINNER!!

The moment I heard that phrase, I knew this had to be some kind of Christian video with moralizing in it. The rest of the video just seemed to be asking for appreciation and understanding, but the cow phrase was preaching.

No. Parents reminding their kids which kinds of movies they can see is not unusual to me. Whether they thought of themselves as cool or not is irrelevant. Strange, perhaps, but irrelevant. Kids of the ages in the video are not usually in a situation in which they are faced with the moral dilemma of buying cows.

I'll give it a go :)

* An uncomfortable attempt at being hip or funny by adopting a minstrel show adaptation of rap?
* The presumptuousness of a holier than thou attitude?
* The self-congratulatory tone towards parenting, a duty people and other critters have been exercising with some success since the inception of mammals?
* The complete obliviousness of FAIL?

Oh... and the sheer skin-crawlyness of it all.

When I was a kid PG-13 wasn't even invented yet.  :P
