Where did you get your username from?
« on: May 23, 2013, 04:39:06 PM »
I'll start with the three usernames I've had here:
Blaziken - my favorite Pokémon
Lucifer - my favorite character in the Bible (the fake one theists believe in; not the actual Bible that only mentions "Lucifer" as a title for a Babylonian[1] king, an angel[2] and Jesus)
One Above All - the Marvel supreme deity

And here's another one I've added to my list of "Also known as:" in my sig:
All In One - one of the Vortigauns'[3] deities[4].
 1. IIRC.
 2. Who didn't rebel.
 3. From Half-Life.
 4. I say "one of" because I'm not sure if they have others.
The truth is absolute. Life forms are specks of specks (...) of specks of dust in the universe.
Why settle for normal, when you can be so much more? Why settle for something, when you can have everything?
We choose our own gods.

A.K.A.: Blaziken_rjcf/Lucifer/All In One.

My sons name is Miles. The magic just seemed like a good prefix back when I first created an internet name in about 2007.

It's sort of a joke - it's short for "just a girl" and it was first introduced on a sports forum as a social experiment. I wondered if I would be treated differently with a neutral name versus a gender-obvious name. My other name on that board was Tiffany, and yes, it made a difference. Jag stuck when some of us migrated elsewhere and I've been Jag ever since.
My tolerance for BS is limited, and I use up most of it IRL.

It's based on my real name.

I would hope mine's fairly obvious for use on an atheist forum.
Actually it doesn't. One could conceivably be all-powerful but not exceptionally intelligent.

I got woo-ed into using this name.  ;)

Back in 1999, I was asked about some sigils I had embroidered on some black velvet robes for a masquerade at a SF/fantasy convention.  The question was "Are those real runes?"

I didn't know, so I started researching runes.  That led Me to Odin and to the rest of the Norse pantheon.

I was also into crystals, er, shiny geologically-created piezoelectric thingamajigs, and for a while was carrying a nice round piece of quartz in My pocket.  One day, while having a coffee break at My IT job, I was holding this rock and meditating.  In My imagination, I heard Odin call Me 'Astreja.'  After a little more digging around I realized that the goddess variously known as Eostre, Ostara, Astarte, et al. was MIA... So I volunteered.

And I *so* wish I was making this up...

(BTW, I still have the black velvet robes that started  this whole thing.  I tend to put them on October 31 and grumble a lot in a sarcastic whisper, pausing occasionally to cough, wheeze or mutter the words of a Fireball spell.)

My user name when I was a christian (on other boards) was Monster Machine. But when I lost my faith and the blinders came off, I felt such a zest for life that I changed my name to Energized. I was no longer living to die... I was living to live and I feel so energized to live it and experience it to its fullest.

Energized also has the same first letter as my real name, Eldon. I always end my emails with E. so why not E. for Energized?

"Schizoid" is my personality which is considered a disorder, but not by me--it's simply who I am.  I am schizoid because I prefer my own company to that of others ("I vant to be alone, darling").  I am alone but not lonely.  Definitely not a people person so I don't have friends because they are people and other than for short periods I find people to be annoying.

Probably surprising to many I am NOT introverted.  I can talk to total strangers while waiting in a store line, even initiating an exchange by commenting on our wait.  But since it is only for a minute or two and I don't have to ever see them again it is easy for me to do.

Imagine how distressed I would be to find myself have to spend eternity after death with people I would want to have nothing to do with in life, worshiping a deity that I consider to be a psychopath.  Now that really would be hell for me.

So choosing "Schizoid" as my username is actually quite descriptive of me as a person.

Mine is from an idea I've had for a short story (which I keep telling myself I'll write someday, but probably won't) about a man whose lifelong dream is to be able to play the piano, but he can't because he's a dwarf -- his legs are too short to reach the pedals, and his arms and fingers aren't long enough to play the keys properly.

Sun is the first three letters of my first name, King is one of the English translations of the last three letters of my first name.

It wasn't complicated!

Not quite, the last three letters of my name translates to king, Samraat has seven letters! Can't blame you, we have quite a lot of synonyms for king in India. That is one of the nuances of having too many languages in one country. (We have 22 official languages!)

In my experience 'absolutism' leads to inconsistencies and paradoxes.

On an atheist site I thought it appropriately reflected my views.

I have loads of word documents on my PC where I expound my theories using (in no particular order) Einstein, Godel, Chomsky, Heisenberg, Hume etc.

After all these years I still have not had the bravery to start the 'ultimate' thread/post to show my 'wisdom'.

Maybe I am being too perfectionist!!!   :)

A really good friend of mine in 1997 gave me the nickname "Nam". He said when he first saw me he thought I was in the National Guard. (I was clean cut and muscular)

This is my signature "Nam", don't I have nice typing skills?

my wife always has referred to any non believer as a "pagan" so when I officially dumped xianity months ago it only made sense... I am a new pagan.

I know the name implies some form of religion and as an atheist that sounds odd.  I am still in the closet so it makes sense for me since I still go to church with my family.
If xian hell really exists, the stench of the burning billions of us should be a constant, putrid reminder to the handful of heavenward xians how loving your god is.  - neopagan

Technically my ancestry is Irish, French, and German but the username "IrishFrenchGerman" just doesn't read well.

When I was about 14 I took big interest in Japanese history, particularly feudal Japan and at the same time I took an interest in game creation[1], went through a process of learning how to program and 3D model and also created my own website, I struggled to think of names and came across a few interesting Japanese words and eventually settled on 'seppuku', which is a form of ritual suicide which involves disembowelment followed by a person of your own choice beheading you. Seppuku is a ritual reserved for any samurai who have become dishonoured. So my website become Seppuku Arts, which I guess is a little grim, but I like grim. It's perhaps obvious my interest hasn't died consider my avatar is a depiction of Miyamoto Musashi (legendary samurai and author of the Book of 5 Rings) and my signature steals a quote from him.
 1. and to this day, I've never finished a single project, but I am working on one now.

This name is a shortened version of the name I use on just about every website that requires a username.  When I went to sign up here it said that the name I usually use was already taken, so I shortened it to what I have now.  But even if I could use the name I wanted, there is no special meaning behind it.  Just a word and a random number.
