I am always sad to hear of the death of someone so young, and I cannot imagine the pain his parents must be suffering right now. I find myself hoping, irrationally of course, that the mental illness that his father spoke of was a genuine mental illness, and not that he was gay and labeled mentally ill.
I know nothing about this young man, his illness, or his sexual orientation, but I know that Rick Warren has the blood of gay men on his hands. http://www.alternet.org/story/144403/uganda's_%22kill_the_gays%22_bill_tied_to_rick_warren_mentor
He later, under pressure, condemned the Ugandan legislation which he inspired, prescribing capital punishment for homosexual activities. http://www.time.com/time/world/article/0,8599,1946921,00.html
I hope that his son's tragic death is completely unrelated to the father's work or politics or religious convictions.
And I hope that those who knew and loved this young man can come together and comfort each other as they work through their unspeakable grief, and attempt to understand that which no parent could possibly ever come to understand.
