I don't know if this is already here somewhere, but I thought it should be posted.  It's a young man's letter to Bush and Cheney about the Iraq war.

Why did I put it in the 'religion in the news' section?  Because the young man is an atheist.  At least it says so in the end of this piece here...

I saw this somewhere else yesterday.  10 years ago we entered this mess that is/was the Iraq War.  What a waste of life and limb and broken minds.  And still those on the right are praising it as George Bush's crowning moment.  Those on the left making excuses for supporting it at the time.  We never seem to learn as a nation.  I guess Vietnam was too long ago for many to remember.  Now somehave their sights on Syria and lets not forget about Iran.  I'm sure we can take some more food out of poor and old peoples mouths for those conflicts.
Yo, put that in your pipe and smoke it.  Quit ragging on my Lord.

He became increasingly depressed about his impending deployment to Iraq when he was in basic training at Fort Benning, Ga. He asked the battalion doctor for antidepressants. The doctor said he had to meet first with the unit’s chaplain, who told him, “I think you will be happier when you get over to Iraq and start killing Iraqis.”

Our military is so fucked.  A doctor won't prescribe medication without the shaman's say so?  The shaman -who's alleged role model is called "the prince of peace" -  thinks he'd be happier once he started killing people?  Are mental defectives the norm in the military?

I remember Viet Nam and I remember "Sky Pilot." It is a song by Eric Burdon and The Animals and it describes some soldiers and the sermon they get from the chaplain before a big battle.

Sky Pilot = Chaplian

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sky_Pilot_(song)

He blesses the boys as they stand in line
The smell of gun grease and the bayonets they shine
He's there to help them all that he can
To make them feel wanted he's a good holy man

Sky pilot... sky pilot
How high can you fly
You'll never, never, never reach the sky
He smiles at the young soldiers

Tells them it's all right
He knows of their fear in the forthcoming fight
Soon there'll be blood and many will die
Mothers and fathers back home they will cry

Sky pilot... sky pilot
How high can you fly
You'll never, never, never reach the sky
He mumbles a prayer and it ends with a smile

Sky pilot... sky Pilot
How high can you fly
You'll never, never, never reach the sky
You're soldiers of God you must understand

The fate of your country is in your young hands
May God give you strength
Do your job real well
If it all was worth it

Only time it will tell
In the morning they return
With tears in their eyes
The stench of death drifts up to the skies

A soldier so ill looks at the sky pilot
Remembers the words
"Thou shalt not kill"

You'll never, never, never reach the sky
I'd cut him if he stands, and I'd shoot him if he'd run
Yes I'd kill him with my Bible and my razor and my gun

Poverty is the parent of revolution and crime.
