Daylight Savings Time - Obama Socialism

Saving the Day

One way to appreciate the conceptual oddness of daylight saving time is to imagine it as a new idea just cooked up by the Obama administration. An individual mandate to change your clocks twice a year, every year, to enable a government redistribution of sunshine. Or, put another way, the feds’ confiscation of more than 300 million privately held American sleep hours, taken for eight months without interest payments or a penalty.
John 14:2 :: In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.

I'll do that editorial one better.

It's exactly like when the Bush administration decided to arbitrarily change the DST dates to "save money".  To redistribute the days in which we observed DST, to confiscate two months worth of extra sleep while claiming it was a "cost-saving measure" (for the government).

See how that kind of inane political opinion can cut both ways?

So the Obama conspiracy is so strong that he even affected our politics before his birth? Wow.

I say that because daylight time started in the '50's.  it has slowly been stretched out to last a couple of more months, but it has been around since before he wa born.

I think it should be done away with, but I live far enough North that we get long days no matter what.

My only real beef with the concept was that for years it ended on the last weekend in October. Which made it darker when kids went out trick-or-treating, and invariably someone got ran over. And the suddenly dark mornings in the springtime seemed to get a kid or two walking to school run over too.

Plus I cried for an hours the first time my dad tried to explain why moving the clock forward made it get dark later. I was about five.

At some point the ignorant right will start complaining that it is Obama's fault that there are more red stripes than white in the flag. In the meantime, we get to put up with inanity like this. Were they actually children, it might be cute. But adults acting like kids gets old fast.

Hey Chronos, do you have a link?

My wife complains all summer about missing that hour.   :o  Of course, as an African she doesn't get the west's preoccupation with the importance of time.

Well I like Daylight Savings Time and I don't have to rationalize it for any noble reason.  Certainly the amount of hours of daylight in a day are no longer, but that hour of daylight in the morning that passes while I am sleeping or before I leave means much more to me in the evening when I can enjoy it.  I tend to hole up when it gets dark early in the evening and cabin fever is bad enough here in Wisconsin as it is.

So there's one less hour for sleeping once a year.  I ain't going to church and today is perfect for taking it easy since it is gloomy and raining so I won't be losing any sleep today.  Even with that it will be nice when it's light out for an hour longer today.  Here in the upper midwest we grasp at any hope of Spring.
