Supremes look at the DNA Swab

The U.S. Supreme Court hears arguments on Tuesday in a case that could throw a monkey wrench into the widespread use of DNA testing — a case that pits modern technology against notions of personal privacy.

The case originally came about because a dna test showed guilt in a rape case 6 years earlier.

PBS newshour has a good interview about these arguments today (2/26), probably available tomorrow (http://www.pbs.org/newshour/), with some justices (Alito) asking why DNA cheek swabs are different than fingerprinting, and others (Sotomayor) asking if traffic stops can get DNA checks, or DNA testing school children will be OK - looking for the laws boundaries.

Wednesday, the Supreme Court will hear arguments on the Voting Rights Act. At issue: whether to uphold Section Five, which requires nine states and parts of seven others, to get federal approval to change their voting laws.
