The whole country is hiding under the bed
« on: December 23, 2012, 02:34:00 PM »
I watched part of Michael Moore's - Bowling for Columbind the other day.  Got me thinking about what he said and religion.  We do seem to be a very fearful people.  Especially in the USA.  We fear strangers, the North Koreans shooting off a missile, Muslims of all sorts, end of the world dates, hell our own government.  People "preppers" plan for the end.  Guns are everywhere. The fiscal cliff is coming. It never ends.  There is always one or more often many things to be fearful of.

So this is a perfect breeding ground for religion.  We need the God placebo to try to calm our fears...not that it works for very long if at all.  Does anyone remember a time when we were not worked up about something?  It seems far worse here than elsewhere in the world.

Oh, and don't forget we have a black man in the White House...a socialist, communist, Muslim...just waiting to tear the country apart.  I even heard that Obama planned the Conn school shooting to get gun control.  Scary stuff and fearful stuff.  Where is our God to protect us?

Nervous people see snakes on every plane. The look at the ground and think earthquake, at the sky and think terrorists, at their neighbor and think pervert, and at their government and think quaking terrorist pervert. Unable to be happy about anything and unable to trust even a puppy, they spray their egocentric notions around like bullets from an assault rifle and complain that not all of us share their paranoia.

I refuse to be afraid of their fantasies. I'm afraid of them though. They be scary. Where is Samuel L. Jackson when we need him?
Not everyone is entitled to their own opinion. They're all entitled to mine though.

Maybe not the Samuel Jackson part you asked for, but a good one.  Still good, after da fact. :)

It's always been this way. And each tide makes that calming sea even further away.

I think it is more likely that many people have never matured in their understanding of human life, and it is from that which comes fearfulness of the world, rather than simply fearfulness itself. If 80 percent of Americans got a reality check and realized that no one is going to breast feed them anymore and realized all we have is other humans, I wonder how much evil would still persist?

Very glad this board is back up!

I wonder where this scare comes from. I have never had a fear that my actions or others actions will cause an apocalypse, cleansing, whatever those like to call it.

Still, this country is scared. Shitless, in fact. For what, I don't know. Work hard, be nice, drive nice, help someone who needs it. That's the common ground for all people. Yet us Americans seem to be waiting and HOPING for some kind of divine apocalypse to cleanse us all???

I just came back from a holiday trip, seeing my friends and family, I'm going to work tomorrow, which is rare for many in Southern California. As far as current life goes, I couldn't be happier and less afraid. Don't see why millions claim to be or act to be.
