Anonymous and the Westboro Baptist Church
« on: December 18, 2012, 12:43:16 PM »
I hadn't seen anyone else mention this, so I thought I would. First, here's a link to the article. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/12/17/westboro-baptist-church-twitter_n_2318519.html?ncid=edlinkusaolp00000009&ir=Politics[1]

Ok, done laughing yet? As one commenter there named pdxist posted, "I'm no fan of Anonymous' tactics, but it's pleasing to me that Shirley Phelps-Roper will now have to contact the Social Security Administration to officially protest her own funeral. "

How sad is it when it takes a group that is officially labeled by the US government as a terrorist organization to teach a religious group a moral lesson? The WBC is the paragon of everything that is wrong with religion. This really couldn't happen to a better bunch. I REALLY hope its true that they changed the Phelps' computer desktop background to gay porn.
 1. Because of my absence and the site being down for a bit, I have forgotten the proper formatting for making a word into a hyperlink without showing the address. If anyone could refresh me as to how to do this, it would be much appreciated
Seriously though... What would happen if the Great Green Arkleseizure didn't fram up the rammastam before the hermite curve achieved maximum nurdfurdle velocity? Now THAT would be something. AmIrite?

It probably already had porn. They probably just made it two gay atheists instead of a dozen gay believers. That'll piss him off. He's into orgies, I'm sure.

Not everyone is entitled to their own opinion. They're all entitled to mine though.

I tend to agree kaz...however...The WBC is also an awesome representation of SPAG.  And they are no more or less correct than any others, although it could be argued that the WBC is truly following the will of YHWH.  It's kind of sad that such a disgusting group could possibly be the real Christians!

They should go picket Fruit of the Loom factories instead: "God hates cotton-poly blends" has a much better ring to it.

While I am overall not a supporter of the tactics of Anonymous I do have to say, Bravo sirs, bravo.  Picketing a vigil for five and six year old children slain by a gunman is just beyond anything I can imagine.

Give 'em hell boys.

For some time now, every time I see a news story about WBC activities, I am surprised that there is no reports of violence inflicted on them by the mourners. I was thinking about this story when the mail came, and I got a jury summons. likely will not pick me because I am too old, and anyway it would be some dumb uninteresting case...

But it got me thinking. What if I was selected for a jury to decide the case of a family member, who was told at the funeral of a loved one, that "God wanted him dead", and the family member, lost it, and shot several members of WBC.

What kind of evidence would it take for me to find that family member guilty of anything beyond temporary insanity? My initial leaning would be toward justifiable homicide, but I suppose a good prosecutor could make me go for temporary insanity. I guess I have had a lot of violence in my life--some times it looks justified. Anyone else have thoughts like this? Or do need counseling?

I don't approve of Anon's tactics.  But in this case, I'm just gonna let the two of them (Anonymous and the WBC) fight it out.

I don't agree with censoring their "message" by attacking their websites, we can all agree that censorship is a bad thing, but I cannot for the life of me understand why it isn't a crime to picket a funeral or invade the privacy of others to voice your opinion. That's not free speech America, that's harassment!

I get what you are saying, but I dont think "censorship" is the right word in this context.  If there is a sign up for a kkk rally and you, as a citizen, tear the sign down you are not "censoring" them.  Now if a government official says "you cannot post your sign" when they allow other groups to do so - that would fit the definition of 'censorship'.

Personally, I think that the irony of the whole situation is hilarious.  The United States government chooses to readily censor and obtain private and personal information by nearly any means necessary (obviously most often w/out warrants, or w/out probable cause to obtain the warrant if they do have one) under the Patriot Act.  The same conservative people who created these reprehensible laws bitch and moan out their delusional asses about "preserving our freedoms!", yet when there's a mass killing such as the recent one (or Va. Tech, Columbine, etc.), and a socially liberal group like Anonymous does a simple, yet illegal, act to protect paying respect to the affected peoples no one has shit to say.
No one should either because you know if it was your six or seven year old who got shot, you wouldn't want these idiots at their funeral's either.  So, in my opinion, this little action by Anonymous is nothing more than something you would compare to a high school prank that simply happens to reap multiple benefits.

It'd be cool if Anon could hack into a drone and reprogram it to target like, dick cheney's house or something.
