Rocks are beautiful...
« on: December 15, 2012, 06:57:25 PM »
...especially when you use acid to eat away at the not-so-beautiful bits.  Check out what I've been working on here and there for the past couple of weeks:

I love this hobby.  A big local marble quarry has these in their waste rocks.  The operator is nice enough to allow me prime picks. :)
Unless you are Scarlett Johansason or something.  lol  i'd like to punish her with  my baby.  lol

Name suggestions, kin hell?  The Olympus pen has nothing to do with it other than my using it for a scale bar. ;)

No mate I just noticed that everything I could see in your photos was the name of a mountain.
(I particularly liked the Gold Cord Mountain, and I must admit I liked the tripod mount reverse play).

I knew the pen was for scale.

It is a beautiful piece of rock. What is it ..quartz and pyrites?

Ahh.  Makes sense now, and I admit to being a little embarrassed that I didn't pick up on that!

Most of the rock (on the bottom, and formerly on the top, pre-acid) is marble.  The middle part that forms a disc of sorts on which everything else is attached, is a quartz vein.  And the gold blocks are of course pyrite.
