I just smile when someone tries to pull this.  The problem with pejorative insults such as this is that it's really easy to have them turn around on you.

I know I feel blessed by the word. 

But now I don't know what to do next.  Should I offer thanks for this blessing?  Or if I send an insult his way,[1] then will that make him blessed, which would trump a thank you? 
 1. I'm assuming the author is male.  But I could be wrong.

Yes, he is.  Only saying that in this case because I think it's pretty safe to assume that he's not going to be joining the forum.  There has been at least one case I can recall where the "regulars" here got that wrong when a letter writer chose to join us, though.  I didn't say anything then because the LW, when she was addressed as a man, made no effort to correct the misconception, and I didn't think it was my place to do so.

I may be giving the writer too much credit though. If the contributions so far are an indication, those words may be too big.
