country music is filled with Republicans, like Hollywood is filled with Democrats. It can be death to one's career[1] coming out as the opposition to the "norm" in either industry, which equally is unfair and pathetic.
The the country music industry is nothing like hollywood. repubs aren't blacklisted in hollywood.
Exactly. Being right-wing hasn't hurt the careers of Clint Eastwood, Pat Sajak, Charlton Heston, Drew Carey, Ahhnold, Bruce Willis, Jessica Simpson, Britney Spears, John Malkovich, Tom Selleck, Sylvester Stallone, The Rock, plus numerous other writers, country singers, talk show hosts, models, sports figures, beauty queens, or soap stars like Susan Lucci. I have never heard of any widespread discrimination against conservative celebrities. Correct me if I am wrong.
On the other hand, many, many writers, actors, and others had their careers sidelined by having someone accuse them of being commies or not supporting some bad US policy or another. (Jane Fonda, Muhammed Ali, and Harry Belafonte spring to mind. Oh yeah, Vanessa Redgrave got sh!t for criticizing Israel.) Not to mention having to stay closeted if gay or for having Jewish or black ancestry.
People have been blacklisted and banned, but not for being too conservative. Or else Mel Gibson would never be able to show his face.
