My experience with So?a is mostly limited to dunking myself in it during MetalCamp. There's also a lot of places to fish all over the country, so you really should explore a bit. I'm pretty sure it'll be well worth it.

Your next camp has such line up that I would be cooling myself over and over again in cold water if I was there.

Especially Machine head. I saw them at Sonisphere Helsinki in the beginning of june.

I've been to many a student town in my life, but let me assure you ... Jyvaskyla is something special!
(of course, I was eighteen and single at the time, so my judgement might have been just a touch slanted)

Finnish beer is decent. But being honest.. I prefer czechish beer.. Staropramen, Velkopopovicky... or from Brits.. Guinness, Murphys..

Ah, but I specifically mentioned pilsners. Finland is especially good at making damn amazing pilsners. When you bring up other kinds of beer, I agree, there's better to be had, Danish Porter, fe ... but pilsners ... I'll take Finnish over just about anything else, including Belgian pilsner, and me being Belgian, that's saying something!

But good metal we have. We are rock and metal driven country.

I love Tarot, Amorphis, Synergy, Nightwish, Sentenced... etc

I'm deliriously happy, btw, with Anette's work on Dark Passion Play ... those first two tracks ... I sometimes put those on repeat for hours on end.

Poet and the Pendulum sent shivers up my spine the first few times listening to it. Also my friend who isn't really big on the genre caught me listening to it and thought it was awesome, however, because of that bit in the middle somewhere he now refers to it as 'The Ballad of Gary Glitter'. 

The whole set Nightwish put on at Bloodstock 2008 also sent shivers. Although Anette's voice is very different to Tarja's I think she managed to handle some of the older songs very well.

I did get to watch Amorphis at Wacken one year and they were pretty awesome. Not seen Synergy, but some of their cover songs are amazing, even the Abba one. I would really like to see Tarot and unfortunately they played Bloodstock a year I couldn't afford to go. A part of me is hoping they're the secret band at Wacken this year, the other part isn't because the secret band clashes with Leningrad Cowboys (yet another awesome Finnish band) and I really want to see them.

I'm not too big on MH, to be honest. And it's been a while since my last visit there - and even then I only went for the Lamb of God. For some strange reason they just blow my head off. Looking at this year's lineup my favourites are actually two sets of Slovenian guys - Noctiferia and Inmate. Awesome bands. And maybe Hatebreed and Madball.

But the best part of Metalcamp isn't even music. It's the people and the atmosphere. It's hilarious to walk into a bar and see metal beer or metal pizza on the menu. The whole town morphs into this metal crazed hamlet and it feels like you've just come to a flower power festival, but with metal. When you see a five-star restaurant playing Carcass, you know you're in the right place. The softest thing you can hear in any pub or restaurant is Metallica. People there simply love headbangers. And love seems to be mutual.

You see, oogabooga, the problem with listing awesome Finnish bans is that the list quickly becomes larger than the begats from Matthew 1:2-16

Well, Arto is not exactly a band. Actually, he's anything but a band, being a writer and all.


Anyway, if it wasn't fast becoming the land of religious nuts and fascists, Slovenia would be the awesomest place on the planet.

And I think that the failing economy and Europian Union, that is going downhill real fast, are factors that seem to fasten the rise of nationalist groups. Sadly.
