A Hypothetical

Humanity, including you, accepts that Biblegod has been proven to exist. Suddenly find yourself in a room with two buttons. The sign says -

"Press the red button to worship god. Press the blue button to accept eternal torture.

You have 5 minutes to press a button - after 5 minutes and not having pressed a button, the system defaults to a press of the blue button.

Your choice is irrevocable.

You now have 5 minutes left"

That's all you get. That's all the information you have in the hypothetical. Complaining like you all are doing, sidestepping, wriggling, asking to have information that isn't coming, proclaiming how many cigars you have burned into your skin, making brazen statements about some impossible grandstanding is not going to get you anywhere. There you sit and there you are faced with the buttons and no more information. There is nobody to ask a question of. This is the hypothetical in it's entirety.

My impression is that you feel it is pointless to push Blue because you can't stick it to the man.  That's fine to think.  It's not why I'd push Blue though.  Not trying to start a big discussion by any means, just wanted to double-check your goal with that statement Wannabe. =) C'mon Blue!

Hal thinks he knows what could change my mind and get me to push the red button but I don't do anything I don't want to; and it's been that way almost my entire life.

I don't welcome eternal torture, and it's not about regretting the decision like flapdoodle (sp?) states, 'cause in making the decision I would be of sound mind, as I am right now.

If Biblegod was shown to exist, and it is the Biblegod of the whole Bible: Heaven would bew more Hell to me than Hell would. It's like taking the rest of one's pride and dignity; after that: what matters? At least in Hell you'd still have those things, even if slightly diminished.

But, I would never regret the decision; and y'all can keep on stating, as a fact, I and everyone else would, but you don't know us, or anyone based on your own perception of society, and yourselves.

That's where you lose the argument, and it seems based on Hal's topic: the battle, as well, a long time ago.

Red here - although I now live with quite a bit of pain (most caused by a near-fatal car wreck 4 years ago), and this 'discomfort' is likely to continue for the rest of my life, in terms of eternal agony - I'm allergic to that

Sidebar: I don't like the subject of fear.  If someone asks me my deepest fears, I usually tell them, "temperature, altitude, and duration."  That confuses them long enough for me to make a getaway.

I don't think this poll proves much of anything about the members here. I was mostly just curious as to how people would answer when given the option of anonymity. It is interesting to see how close the raise is though, perhaps we are not as easy to predict HAL?[1]
