It has come to our attention over the last few weeks that we have a problem. The rules must be followed by all parties. Here are the rules that need attention that we've been letting slide for one side or the other:

Responses to a thread must be on-topic and should contribute constructively to the discussion at hand.

Both Parties (theists and non-theists) are guilty. Your contributions should be constructive - not destructive. Snide remarks and the like are destructive to conversations and so will not be tolerated in the future. Period.

Trolling other forum members, grudge matches, soap-opera dramas, and other actions that staff members deem to be designed to disrupt threads or provoke hostile emotional responses from other forum members will not be tolerated.

Again, both parties are guilty. We can't have productive discussions if either side abuses this rule. Look for more active moderation when arguments erupt. Do what the moderator asks. Do not argue with moderators in the thread.

Discussion threads are for discussion of the topic at hand, not simply advertising one's opinions. As such, forum members are expected to back up assertions they make, and not engage in stonewalling, shifting goalposts, changing the subject, or employing similar tactics to avoid addressing points raised against their arguments.

We'll be handling this in the future via active moderation and using other tools available to help discussions along.

Finally, again, both sides will be held accountable to the rules equally. If we can't apply the rules equally, then guests reading the forum will think less of us and might make a decision to not join. Any member who harasses a moderator for enforcing the rules will be dealt with as appropriate. If you think a member needs moderating, then PM a moderator or initiate a Report to Moderator - but abuses of the RTM system will also not be tolerated. Members taking on a role as a "self appointed moderator" is not allowed. If anyone needs moderating - then let the moderator do his/her job. We'll be taking advantage of cooling off periods of 24 hour (non-permanent) bans as needed - for members of either side - atheist or theist.

Bumping again. Make sure you read and follow the rules - they are being enforced proactively.
