Applaud/Smite character limit increase

The current character limit seems too short for some posts. Users are sometimes required to misspell words and/or replace them with other characters and/or reveal only some of their reasons to make it fit.
Would it be possible to increase said limit?

could you also stop those with negative balances from smiting or applauding others?

Thank you, thank you, thank you.  It was annoying trying to write a reason when I ran against such a hard limit.  55 characters doesn't always even cover a single sentence.

I think Hatter's point is that we sometimes get people who have a negative karma start smiting others back.  I haven't seen that happen much, though.

I'd rather not, as long as they have a reason I don't want to silence members. If anyone has a complaint about a specific smite let us know and we can look into it.
