Can I post a link to my forum?
« on: November 21, 2011, 08:20:17 AM »
Hi everyone. I recently started a forum and over the last couple of days I've been sending pms to some members here about it. I'd like to know if it's possible to have a link to my forum somewhere if I put a link to this one on mine. Thanks.

Might be considered advertising if you do this continually but not in the rules now. This from the rules:

Do not post SPAM, advertisements, porn, chain letters, warez, executable programs, or other content that would be destructive or disruptive of the Forum's function.

removed reference to old rule. Seems it is a good idea to read the rules occasionally or after being gone a while.

Maxwell,

I did not respond to your PM because I did not think it was appropriate that a person with only 12 posts on this website should be touting for business on their new startup endever.

I regarded your message as spam.

If I have broken any WWGHA rules in revealing this information I am ready to be arrested by the admins.

Alzael:I have removed some content from this post as PM's are not to be broadcast to the forum at large without permission.

The message they sent you was:

Hi, I've started my own forum SNIP and I wondered if you'd like to join. It's similar to this one but I'm going to try and make it fairly balanced as I am going to hopefully get people from other atheist forums as well as religious and even spiritual forums to join. It should be fun once it gets going. As you can see it's a bit empty at the moment but I'm hoping to make it busy and lively. Free free to join if you like and check from time to time.  :D

If I have broken any WWGHA rules in revealing this information I am ready to be arrested by the admins.

Well, yeah PMs are suppossed to remain private. But you also just advertised for him!

Max,
Didn't it occur to ask this question in Chatter? Or, just PM a mod?
Maybe the Mods will delete this thread or move it for you.

I suppose Chatter seems a more relevant place.

I for one am heading over to your place, because there are no rules, and I like that I can do anything I want! Kewl!  ;D

I haven't gotten round to writing the rules yet. So yes, technically you can do anything you like at the moment. However, so can I  :D

Of course, but doing anything we want here is not gonna fly---is the point.

It comes down to respecting the house you are in.

I explained that I wasn't. Let me be more direct.

I can see how one would miss the reference to advertising or not see that it might apply to you linking to your site. However, it is pretty clear that posts are to remain on topic.

Yours didn't even start on topic. Chatter would have been more appropriate, but if you had to PM anyone, maybe PMing a mod would have been a better choice.

Now you pissed off at least one member (not me) and violated a rule by posting an unrelated question.

Glad to be of help!

Let us cut to the chase. No links. You should not post such links. Once you have 5000 posts, we will review your motives - at the moment they look like spam advertising.

Maxwell,

In your profile, you can add a URL, which will be shown on the sidebar under your profile.  That's as far as I would go in sharing your own site.
