Ripped his eyes out

A schizophrenic in Italy gouged his own eyes out just before mass:

The priest went ahead and served mass anyway even tho a lot of churchgoers had left.

I think I can understand that.  When something awful happens I try to do something normal, maybe in denial, maybe to get life back of track, I don't know.

Yeah, he should have been cheered for his faith.  I hope he had health insurance or else no medical care for him.

This was in Italy. Healthcare is free and it's good quality too.

In fact, I happen to know Viareggio (where this happened) pretty well from when I lived in Italy. Nice town right on the sea.
