Get with the game, man. He's pledging. He needs permission to do things. This is why I don't care for fraternities.-Nam

The pledging, the hazing ... why would I want to be friends with people who think abuse is a fun way to decide if you're worthy??? My brother was in a frat and loved it, hazing and all. I don't get it.

I don't get it.Hazing is a way to bond initiates tighter to the group. The more difficult it is, the tighter the bond. There have been coming of age rituals in all societies specifically for this reason. Consider young men in Africa who have to spend nights outside in the cold for their tribal entrance to manhood. Consider Navy Seals. Their ordeals are not just to find out how they endure extreme stress, but it also bonds them together.
What I don't understand is bonding with a person who harms you directly.

That is when it goes awry. When I was in college a hundred years ago, one of the frats got kicked off campus. They were sodomizing the pledges.
I'd like to join in on the fun if possible
I thought it was over 300 posts to get in.
