When I was a little girl my parents took me to see Pete Seeger in concert several times. I loved his music and the shows, even though he was an old man. He was actually an old man before I was born.
He was going bald before my father’s voice changed.
But in spite of advancing age, he seems to keep going.
When my daughter was 2 years old, I could not believe that 89 year old Pete Seeger was giving a free show with his grandson at Lincoln Center. I was thrilled to have the opportunity to see him one last time, and to share the concert with my daughter.
But then he did another show. I’m pretty sure a few people saw it. Some guy from NJ sang with him. And they sang the forbidden verses that you didn’t learn at summer camp.
Did you just see him RUN off stage?
Last fall, at the age of 92, he took a spontaneous midnight stroll with some friends from Zuccotti Park to Columbus Circle and sang some songs along the way.
I cannot believe that next month, I’ll be seeing him with my daughter yet again, at the Clearwater Music Festival. He just turned 93.
