One of those sample-based tracks that's actually more impressive if you know the source material.

Seriously, Pete did is thing all over that whole album.

Alternative version to Depeche Mode's Enjoy the Silence. ;) I quite like this song. Plus this is an awesome band and seen them play this song twice.

Listening to some awesome Porcupine Tree, as I've not listened to this album in a while.

Interesting project from Mikael Akerfeldt from Opeth and Steven Wilson from Porcupine Tree. Very Tim Burton liked, but a good music video and a weird track, but I always like their work and it's interesting to see them do something together.

As far as like, identity goes, I think this is one of the most important songs to me growing up.  I specifically remember that my cousins that stayed in Chicago didn't know what "one time" meant...at least until 2Pac was on about he spent his life, his life, his life, his life, ducking one time.

When I was a little girl my parents took me to see Pete Seeger in concert several times.  I loved his music and the shows, even though he was an old man.  He was actually an old man before I was born.

He was going bald before my father’s voice changed.

But in spite of advancing age, he seems to keep going.

When my daughter was 2 years old, I could not believe that 89 year old Pete Seeger was giving a free show with his grandson at Lincoln Center.  I was thrilled to have the opportunity to see him one last time, and to share the concert with my daughter.

But then he did another show.  I’m pretty sure a few people saw it.  Some guy from NJ sang with him.  And they sang the forbidden verses that you didn’t learn at summer camp.

Did you just see him RUN off stage?

Last fall, at the age of 92, he took a spontaneous midnight stroll with some friends from Zuccotti Park to Columbus Circle and sang some songs along the way.

I cannot believe that next month, I’ll be seeing him with my daughter yet again, at the Clearwater Music Festival.  He just turned 93.

Death, here's another band you might like. Svartsot. Heavily Viking folk themed.

They're a Danish band. This one comes with a story.

When I was at Uni, I used to do Storytelling in my spare time - do events at my University and perform and even performed to venues outside. My stuff was normally Viking themed. I entered Young Storyteller of the Year 2010 alongside a friend of mine who also did storytelling. With his girlfriend there we were the only metalheads...or at least the only obvious metalheads and kind of stood from the crowd a bit, but loved it and the audience enjoyed our performances. When it came to the break after my performance, there was a couple that pulled me over to tell me how much they enjoyed my performance and asked, "what is it with Vikings and kilts?" Confused, I asked them to elaborate and they said their son was in a metal band that plays music based around the vikings and that their son likes to wear a kilt on stage (just as I had). When I asked, what's the name of the band, they said Svartsot. It knocked me because because I had played them on my radio show a week before. They also said they were playing Wacken (my favourite festival in the world, but I didn't go that year), so it was an interesting conversation.  The couple are also involved with the UK's Storytelling festival, Festival at the Edge. So it was quite an awesome moment methinks.

This video starts out slow, with your typical "feeding the kangaroo's" segment, but then it gets pretty interesting.

Note: For some reason the video doesn't embed right, but just click on the link. Especially if you're old and like rock music. Or you're young and you wonder how much you'll enjoy rock when you get old.

So what did you tell her about the viking/kilt thing? What is that about?

It just looks good. ;) It might be possible there's some history somewhere tying the Scots & Vikings as the Vikings did occupy Scotland, but I don't know if there we Vikings that wore a kilt or wore something like a kilt. Generally Vikings wore tunics. Generally it is suggested the origin is Celtic. So if a Viking ever wore a kilt, it's probably because somebody gave him one to put on. :)

I wore it because the story I chose was about cross dressing - I was gonna flash the audience for a joke too[1], but whilst I was telling it I felt that it didn't need it as it got the right amount of laughs. I know I COULD have gone in drag, but I didn't fancy walking around the streets of Birmingham as a drag queen. ;)
