Damn...when I took a little side gig teaching kids about DJing, I had no idea how into house some of these kids are.  Peace to my little homie that hipped me to this one though.

My favorite guitar shred song.

And why not let the bass stand out?  Bill Dickens is one of the guys who, when I first saw one of his videos, opened my eyes to just how awesome some bass players are.

My favorite guitar shred song.

Hey rev   I am isolated from a lot of the normal comms channels for music etc  no tv, no radio, no newspapers etc  so it is great to have people introduce me to new musicians

I understand buckethead is not new (huge discography) but I have never heard any of his stuff before.  Truthfully when the shred track you've presented started I was only half listening as I quickly stupidly and unintentionally pre-judged it as a joe satriani meets vai clone  (both of whom I can appreciate but neither of whom I like that much >I certainly never listen to any of the albums of theirs that I own<)

Anyway fortunately bucketheads guitar finally managed to infiltrate the dense matter that is my skull at times, and I pumped up the volume and went along for the ride.........

Loved it

It reminded me of Zappa (v. high praise from me)

so here's a Zappa reply

please note NSFW

the youtube excerpt is off Joe's Garage  three tracks

Wet T-Shirt Nite

which leads into the solo I am talking about at 4:42 Toad O-Line

which builds up to 7:47 (brief Central Scrutiniser diversion)
to 8:20 (unpronounceable disease) when it rips back into Zappa guitar
until 9:03 when it segues into Why Does It Hurt When I Pee? (worth listening to for more typical Zappa genius)

let me know what you think
meanwhile I'm off chasing more buckethead

^I'm really not much of a shred fan myself but I try to listen to a wide variety of music, makes listening to the radio on long trips easier.  I know the more well known shredders and Buckethead was the one I found myself really enjoying.  Outside of him I do enjoy a lot of Paul Gilbert's stuff.
I used to be able to play a good portion of this one.

And another favorite with a band and space suits.

I can't say I've listened to a lot of Zappa.  Most of what I've heard is his hits and a few other songs that others have posted on other websites I visit.  I will say that the song(s) you posted are probably the most enjoyable that I've heard from him.  Any other Zappa suggestions?

Joe's Garage (Vol 1) is easily the most accessible of Zappas work
It's like he did a mainstream (minus the nsfw lyrics) album filtered through his genius.

The whole album is worth a listen just for the music of course, but also for the hilarious?cautionary story the album tells
(Volumes 2 and 3 are a lot less approachable imo)

Other albums that are my particular favourites and show just some of his unique talent/madness from his 60+ discography

Apostrophe'
Just another band from LA
One Size Fits All
Overnite Sensation

I suspect many listeners would require more than one session with any of these to enjoy them, but the journey is more than worth the ticket price

here is a classic example of Zappa complexity with a monster track including a stunning guitar solo @2:00 amidst some of the most incendiary percussion we'll
ever be lucky enough to hear

Zappa has always been one of those musicians I close my eyes to and drift off into the flow

And here's  S Vai making me eat my earlier words (with another Zappa)  wildfire soloing  Zomby Woof  (overnite sensation)

^Thanks, I'll have to look into it.

Along with Bill Dickens that I posted earlier, the other two players who influenced my bass playing.

Again, my current gig has me fucking with house music, and electro house in particular, in a way that I would not be otherwise.  I like this one:

I also like that I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do while I listen to house music at home and so I tend to read while I'm listening to the tracks the kids suggest I get (aka listening for any demonic influences).  I end up just feeling like I'm living the lamest action sequences ever.  I'm listening to this track and I'm realizing that I'm hearing it build up and drop and all that, but the film accompanying would just just me looking at my computer monitor thinking"damn, Ross Douthat might actually have a point there."

Peace

If everybody knows why is nothing done about it?

I guess that's just how it goes.

whatever happened to Christian Slater anyway? I mean, he wasn't a "great" actor but I liked his style.

I find white noise from the T.V. very comforting and relaxing so I guess there is nothing much for me to forgive.
