Why does every intelligent Christian disobey Jesus?

From the video’s description:

In this short video, we will examine a simple but profound question. Why do you, as an intelligent Christian, disobey Jesus? Why don’t you do what Jesus tells you to do in the Bible?

The Bible makes it very clear: To be a Christian, You must obey Jesus. For example, the bible says:

We know that we have come to
know [Jesus] if we obey his
commands. The man who says,
“I know him,” but does not do
what he commands is a liar,
and the truth is not in him.
– 1 John 2: 3-4

Jesus also says:

That servant who knows his
master’s will and does not get
ready or does not do what his
master wants will be beaten
with many blows.
– Luke 12: 47

The message is clear enough. To be a Christian, you must obey Jesus. So let’s look at five things that Jesus has commanded you to do in the Bible. These commandments, and the fact that you ignore them, will amaze you…

If you are an intelligent Christian, can you explain why you disobey Jesus?

Wow. Good video. I can’t think of any good replies to this … without writing a few books and twisting words.

Second time watching it. It should get about as many views as “10 Questions…” and ‘pray to a jug of milk’

It’s a classic, yet it will likely get plenty of anger while many of the points in the video will be ignored. Yet, as we’ve seen from the other videos, not by everyone.

The commandments He was referring to was the ten commandments of the bible, not the ones that He states as an example to His disciples and the group of people that He was explaining too. There is no argument here.

The author of this video obviously doesn’t understand traditional Christian belief. This video is one giant strawman. So much for rational thought.

wouldnt traditional christian belief come directly from what jesus says in the bible? and didnt the video quote like 20 verses containing what jesus says in the bible? why would jesus say sell everything in 10 places if he didnt mean to sell everything?

People tend to believe that, Jesus explains to His people His teachings in parables. John or his writers continue to encourage that “Loving one another” is the key here. However, Jesus just saids in reference to those who want to become His disciples.. because in order to become a disciple you have to dedicate your life to the Lord, in Christian belief. Also, in Christian belief, Christians must put God first place in their lives, because occasionally the first place in our hearts belong to our family or friends.. thats why He exceeds it so much to teach people who want to be Christian how to achieve this privilege.

Those verses are derived from the bible, Yes i must admit but it also explained in the bible to inherit the kingdom of God is to keep the Lord’s commandments and admit that Jesus died for your sins and accept Him as your Lord and Savior, nothing else.

Then step through the video and show how the words that Jesus were quoted as saying don’t mean what they clearly mean.

What they *clearly* mean? You’ve already made up your mind. Funny how it’s the non-believers who believe what the video says about the words of Christ rather than people who call themselves Christians.

The author of this video just create another topic to derive from the one presented in the bible, JESUS clearly states He talks to the people in PARABLES even to His disciples He talks in parables because He prepares them for their journeys. Which it clearly means that Jesus talks in parables even to His persecutors. The author of this video has no argument here. Hermes you of all of us shoudl know that Jesus talks to everybody in parables. Plus, the commandments He refers to is the “Ten Commandments” stated in Exodus 20, not His teachings.

We can all conclude that Jesus was a teacher, actually since He was 12. He expressed His Father’s word through His teachings. Can you relate that to a teacher of a high school? No teacher explains their material similar to others, although the principle of the material is there.

SteveK, didn’t Jesus say the things the video said he said?

If not, or you think the context is wrong, show me.

If you don’t, that doesn’t obligate me to do your work for you. Christianity is your religion, not mine. The video was not created by me.

I’m as open minded as I am informed … and right now, the video passes the sniff test. Sure it is blunt, it is propaganda, but it also provides specifics that you can specifically detail why you disagree with the maker of the videos. If you do that dryly and methodically, asking no special considerations and dealing with just the facts, I’ll likely be persuaded.

Bottom line: I have no reason to deny reality. I’m an atheist because I’ve found no gods credible. Period.

Nugget, myths and parables are important cultural aspects. Most Christians don’t see the importance of those parts of culturally relevant stories and go for the literal parts — even picking and choosing which parts of the OT are valid and which ones are not. The whole Bible isn’t metaphor, though.

In this case, I’ll take another look at the comments are coming in.

Agreeable Herms, at least we see eye to eye on some terms. There are some Christians that say they are but when it comes down to it, they are not.

1 Corinthians 1:18, 2 Corinthians 4:3 just to name a few that tell yours and the fate of many others. You go to great trouble to be the one who will at last prove that the Bible is false. There have been millions before you, yet the Word Of God lives on. I am so sorry for you. You are in my prayers.

Obviously, it’s impossible for anyone to “prove” that the Bible is false. Likewise, you can’t prove that my friend Ernie (who happens to be invisible) doesn’t exist. Even if I TOLD you he doesn’t exist, you still couldn’t prove it. That, as many Christians say, is why it’s called faith.

However, many people on this forum try to point out the inconsistencies, contradictions, hypocrosies, and barbarism within the Bible so that people like yourself can realize what a joke it is. Someday, with luck, you’ll be glad we did.

I can explain why as christians we still disobay Jesus.
Because we are human. Humans sin, because we are born into sin, we can’t be perfect because no human can. That’s why we need a Savior, someone who can save us from sin, because we can’t save ourselves.

All religion is a delusional hallucinated whirlwind of self approving, self righteous and self worshipping nonsense.

When you think in a rational and logical manner you realize that fear not faith is the only think that makes you believe in a god. I mean I guess you could say faith but its more of a fear of the unknown.

Speaking of faith, Christianity specifically but followed closely by Islam have caused more unnecessary death than any other forces combined. Oh and Adolph Hitler was a Roman Catholic so please do not try to argue that false point. If you just take a gander at Mein Kampf and you will see that Hitler believed he was doing the lord and creators will by fighting the Jews.

I love all of these ‘I’m rational and you’re not’ comments.

First you said rationality leads you say fear is the *only* thing that makes you believe. Then a second dose of rationality leads you to say it *might* also include faith, but that it’s definitely more fear than faith.

So, which is the *real* rational statement and how did you come to know this?

Praise The Lord! The pip squeak satan works so hard to spread the word that The Word is a joke. How incredibly sad it is to see the work of the evil one in people who are blinded to The Truth of God’s Word. The joke is on him and you sadly. You are pawns in his play that is a lost cause. Its hard to believe that I thought like you do not all that long ago until my eyes were open. It was shocking, yet so powerful and I am so greatful to Jesus who turned me around from darkness to light, from hatred to love, from denial to submission. If you could only know the Joy He can bring to a heart full of denial and arrogance. I hope He opens your eyes. May God have mercy on your soul, but His Will be done, not my own. Praise God! Jesus Is Lord!
