This article shows how disgusting religion gets:

A Clash of Cultures in the Holy Land

It wasn’t the first time that Doron Matalon had been verbally harassed on the way home. A young soldier, she had boarded a bus on Wednesday not far from the military base where she served. Shortly before reaching her stop, a 45-year-old man accosted her and demanded that she move to the back of the bus.

The man was demanding that Matalon comply with unwritten rules prescribed by ultra-Orthodox Jews in Israel, decrees which require women to sit at the back of the bus or use different pedestrian routes or sidewalks than men do.
Matalon, however, had no intention of abiding by the edicts and refused to move — out of principle as she told the Israeli daily Haaretz. And because the back of the bus was stuffy. The man immediately began insulting Matalon, calling her a whore, and others quickly joined in the harassment.

Just about every religion demands that women take this kind of abuse. If it is not the Jews, it’s the Muslims with their hijabs, their burqas, their honor killings, etc. If it is not the Muslims, it is the Catholics and their refusal to allow women to be priests. If it is not sexism it is racism. If it is not racism, it is homophobia. ALL of this disgusting discrimination is constantly coming from religion. Why is that?

I will say a pray for you anyway as one human being to another human being. I happen to believe every word of the bible. I know, I am considered ignorant and foolish by you. However I have had many spiritual experiences, which I contribute to a closeness to God and changes in my life which were drastic and almost inhuman. For example, I am a recovered heroin addict and alcoholic. I tried and tried to stop for years before I destroyed my life permanently. A simple idea to pray was given to me by someone and I followed the advice. The madness of addiction was not in my mind anymore. The more I started to lean into the God idea, the more my old way of thinking vanished. I can’t explain it to you scientifically, logically or rationally.

The more I stay in the simple message of Jesus to help one another, the more comfortable and secure my life becomes.

Sometimes I have wanted to say to others who doubt or who even think they are atheists, I use to be a not so nice person in society. My belief in God as I choose to believe has been good for me in my life. Instead of hearing a conversion to God from another human being and laughing at them, ridiculing them and calling them names you might want to breathe a sigh of relief for an inexpensive social remedy to me being loose in society doing what I wish when I wish and to whoever or whatever I wish. There are some personalities on this planet you should be grateful have a God in their minds which helps them.

I know you laugh and say what fools to be conned by my own thoughts and be controlled, but it does work. I found disgustingly so that I needed some control in certain areas as a human being. It has worked for me for almost thirty years. Jesus is a very simple life and how to live and treat others for me. I have many problems with the historical churches of power. Jesus is not a church, I had to look at the way Jesus lived and treated people and then just do my best. Even at my largest failures today, it does not come close to my life of lying, cheating and stealing that I knew before.

Friends, family, bankers and judges appreciate that I have changed. So do I. I actually want the things I have today. I am not talking materially either by instant prayers being met with the click of the fingers. I have less than ever materially and more than I could ever dream possible in my spirit.

    Peace

Michael, if I read your post correctly, none of what you did needed a belief in any god. You’d have done just as well worshiping Vishnu.

It sounds like you are someone who needs rigid structure and rules, I mean nothing ill by that. You can achieve that in society without inventing invisible spirits.

We all know people who have done exactly what you have done — and more — without invoking gods. You understand that you did the work, don’t you?

You even notice that you’ve forged your own version of religion. At a stroke, that shows that it’s you, not some supernatural agent, at work.

By all means believe in whatever you will. It’s just a shame that you are selling yourself, your abilities, and your achievements so ridiculously short.

Go ahead, please do. It will simply provide more proof that prayer doesn’t work.

Why is it that your praying and belief in god and the bible stories work for you, but don’t work for millions of other people who suffer and die miserably? And I dare say that almost all of them are more deserving than you, a heroin addict. Most of them are innocent people who are victims of circumstance and nature, not drug addict wastes of carbon and oxygen. Why would a supernatural being care about you, but not about the rest of its creation?

    Why won’t god heal amputees?

Lou’s comment, harsh as it is, does bring one of the narcissistic and despicable aspects of claiming divine help for afflictions.

Michael, let’s assume I’m the supreme being, aka god. I see you, someone who most likely is responsible for their own downfall, and I see this little guy who was born into famine.

Apparently, I chose to help you overcome your self-caused addition whilst letting tens of thousands of children starve to death every day

Am I (the supreme being) (a) a mean, capricious, uncaring bastard or (b) a figment of your imagination?

For the sake of you believers, I’d hope for (b)

@Micheal….you also said you believe EVERY word in the bible…am i to take it that you believe in slavery, and killing children who sass their parents, and that women should be the property of their husbands, and that people should be stoned to death for handling the flesh of a pig or wearing mixed cloth? How can any rational human being say they believe every word of the bible, when it is full of hypocrisy? How can you believe that in one moment, god would tell people ‘thou shalt not kill’ and in the next that they must kill thousands for worshiping false idols? I daresay you have not really even read the bible thoroughly if at all. And i have to agree with the previous postings, you said that through prayer, god has turned your life around, when in reality, YOU did. YOU found your inner strength and made it happen. In the light of Jesus’ supposed teachings, isn’t that a rather selfish prayer, for you and you alone to be saved, yet for millions on earth to still be starving and in need? I find that contradictory to your speil about helping one another. This is the hypocrisy i find again and again in believers. They claim to believe this bible, but only the parts they pick and choose to represent their lives, rather than admitting it is all a sham and that whatever good comes into their lives is a coincidence. Call prayer what it is: a good wish. They will have the same effect whether you believe or don’t.

predictably, most of the comments here are from atheists and/or non-believers. while we can all smugly congratulate ourselves about our clarity and insight, have we really made any headway against religion? when a person prays and we can’t convince them otherwise, it’s becoming a lost cause. sure, people who have been brought up religious, may one day see the foolishness, but those people are the minority. the numbers are against us. i educate my kids and they seem to recognize my logic, but I can’t even convince my own wife or mother….

  16. on 06 Jan 2012 at 3:46 am 16.Anonymous said …

Alex, headway is being made, but it’s slow.

In terms of convincing people, for some people it’s possibly too late as they’ve spent their lives insulated against reality by their magical beliefs.

However, the internet is a wonderful thing. Just look at the efforts the believers go to on this blog to paint non-believers in a bad light. Consider that if they had nothing to fear they would answer questions. Instead, they post the same inane comments, congratulate each other for their mental buffoonery, then run away as soon as it’s time for them to examine their beliefs in the cold harsh light of reality.

For whatever reason, the United States is a backwater of enlightenment and much of the developed world looks on in amusement at an educated people who still take the bible seriously.

You’re right in that we’ll never eradicate religion, as there will always be people looking for an easy-fix or a simple way to avoid the harsh reality of life. Howeverm if we weren’t scaring the shit out of them, certain theists wouldn’t need to come on here and direct people not to answer our questions.

Yes, the nerve of some people actually requesting that you provide evidence for your claims. And, when did anyone here here tell Michael, or anyone else, “how to live”? Once again Xenon, Hor, Ben… whoever he is at the moment, can only resort to making up lies about atheists on order to further his agenda.

I ask again, what does it say about your position when you must repeatedly lie in order to validate it? To me, it says your position is false…. and you know it!

Michael… good job getting your life together. I hope you continue to keep it so. If you really need to think some invisible being did it for you… well ok.. whatever. Just please don’t expect others to also buy into your fantasy.

Now Xenon… you are a Christian who continually comes onto an atheist website supposedly for the purpose of discussing the existence of gods and do nothing but make unfounded claims and tell lies about atheists, what they believe, and what they do. Which of us is intolerant and which of us is “telling others how to live”? You are the very definition of hypocrisy.

Ian, rather than defend your delusion I see that you are resorting to the good old Christian Persecution Complex. Not even a good try. Why don’t you come up with some proof for the existence of your god?

Let’s start with this one. Explain to us why you reject the existence of the god Zeus. Then tell us why your arguments don’t apply to your god. Please try to do this in a consistent manner without special pleading for your case.

The only bitterness on display is you getting bent out of shape because we’re calling out your belief in an imaginary friend for what it is – a delusion.

Why do you Christians fall back on projection so much? You’re bitter and you’re angry because you no longer get a pass on this 2000 year old goat herder superstitious shit. This childish nonsense of imaginary friends is really tiring. It really is.

By the way, you don’t seem to understand the meaning of the word fallacy. If you are going to use words in a conversation it helps to understand them. For example, your reasoning is fallacious. Your belief in religion is because you are delusional. See the difference?

More Christian projection. It really is scaring for you believers to see your security blanket being tugged out from beneath your feet isn’t it?

So, why won’t just one of you take on our challenge?

Not one Christian, not one, has ever provided proof for the existence of your god. No wonder we laugh at you and no wonder we call you delusional.

So, Tom, rather than trying to make yourself feel better by diverting attention away from your desperation to rationalize your need for the comfort of a magic man in the sky, let’s see you take on the subject of proof.

Where’s your proof for the existence of these imaginary friends of yours? Please do tell.

If this god was anything but a delusion you’d snap back… “here’s the proof” but no-one does, no-one can, all you do is resort to complaining about tone and attitude.

Where’s your proof? Why do you not believe in other gods but believe in yours? Are you happy that you’ve been living a lie?

If you don’t want people to point at you, or laugh at you, or make fun of you, then stop acting like a bronze age goat herder.

Conversely, if you want to go around and tell people that you believe that a zombie born of a virgin who was his own father and who made man from dirt, women from a man’s rib, and who thinks everyone on earth should suffer for eternity because that woman had a conversation with a talking snake, is your best friend, then don’t be surprised when people laugh at you to your face.

Tom, you’ve done nothing but attack other people.

You’ve been repeatedly asked to provide evidence for this god of yours. Not only don’t you even try to address these questions, you’ve ignored them. Is that what being a Christian means to you? Attack people, call them names, refuse to take part in a conversation, and complain about the way you are being treated? Hypocritical much?

    So, let’s hear it Tom:
    1) What’s your proof for the existence of your god?
    2) Why don’t you believe in other gods? Pick one; Allah, Zeus, Thor, you tell us.
    3) If you don’t want to answer those questions, tell us why not.

Or, are you just going to provide more reasons for people to call you delusional because you refuse to address the issue which is a clear indication that you’ve got nothing but wishful thinking?

Well, people don’t call me delusional. Just this blog. Nice try though. You have been asked repeatedly to answer “A Challenge to Atheist” on the other thread and have failed.

You feel free to call me delusional. I don’t mind. It is much better than wasting my time providing this evidence so you can argue back it is not evidence. The Moonies think me delusional too so you are in fine company

But you feel free to convince me otherwise if you like. Maybe take the challenge offered up by “A Challenge to Atheist” on the other thread. It is quite good. How about googling “evidence for God” then refute each point to my satisfaction and I might change my mind. You never know.

Now exactly which name/attack did you find offensive?

You brother in atheism alex was a wonderful representative for the site don’t you think?

So what it is it with these believers that all they do is try to divert the conversation away from their inability to even try to defend their primitive superstitions?

If they know that their beliefs are nothing more than a security blanket based on the camp-fire stories of uneducated goat-herders why do they even bother with them? It’s not like there’s anything of value there.

It seems that no Christian even dares answer the question of “Why won’t god heal amputees”. They come here and bluster over their tried fallacies and prove the point that they are both stupid and illogical. They’re so afraid of the truth that they won’t even try to explain just why they are so desperate to believe that their best friend is an invisible man in the sky.

Is Tom Horatiio in disguise? He certainly adds nothing of value to the conversation other than to demonstrate why Christianity needs to be classed as a mental illness and treated accordingly.

I have attempted to get the bloggers here to defend there hard core claim that there is no God, not any. I have narrowed it down to Jehovah but they offer no proof, ever.

I no longer bother since all they do is reverse the burden of proof on an atheist website that makes a positive claim there is no God. Many who use to participate here have left because the atheist offer nothing other than names like idiot, delusional, fool, and the array offered by alex. They only ignore the immense amount of evidence offered here by many contributors.

I find the exchanges useful though for the students I mentor. They believed at one time they had prove God did not exist. They know know they actually take no position and just call names. It has immensely helpful to them as they go off to college.

I have almost completed an entire Bible study revolving around the claims of godisimininary.com. Even this has been a blessing.

As usual, Xenon and his fellow theists twist the facts in order to avoid the inevitable conclusion that there is no evidence for god.

The THEISTS claim that there is a god. The atheists REPLY to the theists – these is no evidence of your imaginary god unless you provide it. Atheists do not make a claim, theists do.

If I claim that there is a tiny purple elf living in my dishwasher that only I can see, then it is my obligation to provide evidence of it. If I don’t, Xenon, and you dispute my claim, is it your obligation to disprove my claim? Is your denial of my claim a claim in and of itself? No, of course not. But this is the exact same tacit that you and other irrational theists use when you have no evidence for your imaginary god.

As it has been posted here time and time and time again, all you must do is provide evidence for your imaginary god. Everything else you post here is nothing but static because that’s all you have.

At least try to come up with something different in your illogical and irrational replies. This tired, old horse has been beaten to death.

    It is Michael again.

Sorry about the delay in getting back to this post. I hope you all are doing well on this Friday. Wow! I am glad you guys dropped me as the topic of your subject. I regret to say I do not believe in the goodness of mans brain as the central source of the universe.

I hope all of you guys will go back to my original post and see I was speaking about my own experience in my life which you cannot disprove. It would be like me trying to convince you that you do not exist. I am just a guy that use to be one way, changed and started seeing the world through a different pair of eyes and a different energy in my heart. It happened as real as I am typing this.

I hope and I do not think I was rude or inflammatory to any of you on this site. I have lived one of those full lives, so I have been there done that on most experiments in life. They were my experiments, my problems, my tragedies from my decisions and actions. I do not think addiction or recovery is a badge of honor. I don’t see most of the way I use to live as a badge of honor. Most actions were disgusting and I needed to change, go to jail, be institutionalized or die. That’s all.

If you read my post I don’t think I ever said I could prove to anyone anything of what changed me. It was mine personally to believe what I wanted. All of you know I cannot prove the source of my experience anymore than proof of space aliens or ghosts. You also know none of you can scientifically prove the non-existence of a powerful energy force called life which allows you to take your next breath without thinking about it. Can you?

I used to be a non believer, atheist, agnostic. Like I said, I really have searched in ernest. I searched for the purpose and meaning of life to get off the path I was on and then be more helpful in this world. Like I said, I used to be a not so decent individual so I do not tend to be a name calling flame thrower or judge of others.

It is contempt prior to investigation which guarantees to keep us in everlasting ignorance and I choose to investigate first.

RANT: This is odd to me though. We can talk about men sucking other mens dicks, men butt fucking each other in the ass, women who think they were born in a male body, men who think they are really women, doing all the drugs and drinking we want, pornography, tattoos, piercings, taboos, the church of satin, the ideology and fulfillment of self, school teachers having sex with their juvenile students, almost anything is okay to think about and discuss just don’t say you believe in God. LOL!

Okay so that is as much of a rant is you get out of me. I don’t direct that at anyone personally but for me to remember it is perfectly okay for me to believe in God in spite of man’s brilliant scientific, proof of life intellect.

    Peace,
    Michael

My contempt and arguments for this disgustingly beautiful life itself are what melted away that day. I just sat there thoroughly exhausted with me, my judgements and arguments. Life became blissful in my ignorance. I still just say thank you for being alive and for the birds and bees. It is better than the alternative of being a constant bitch or living dead. I used to, too, untill I was something like 14. Then I understood, and accepted, that there is NO such a thing like „meaning of life“, and that looking for it would be the same as looking for the answer why a grain of sand exists.
I understood then (some 56 years ago!) that there are answers without questions: I am an answer, and the question (like, for example „why?“) does not exist. Such questions are senseless.
I understood that the question „why“ posed for my existance is absolutely equal, and equally absurd, as if I posed it for rock:
WHY is a rock here? WHY does it exist?

No answer to this question, and no answer to the question of your or my existence. We just are (not for long!).
However, I was happy that, unlike a rock, I was able to THINK about it and to pose stupid questions, so, unlike a rock, I turned my questions from „why“ to „how“.
I learned a lot since then!

I had, and I still have, a wonderful life.

    Happy Saturday,

I appreciate that Severin. I stopped questioning my existence and beliefs about 30 years when my God Moment came in to my life. It has been just a matter of accepting and being me. There is more peace with my appreciation of being alive and my next automated breathing event. I use to need to know the exact source of everything before I would participate in living. It almost stopped my automated breathing events permanently.

The “HOW” we might get to know once we check out. I don’t think any scientist is going to be able to get emphatic proof of what took place or existed before the 1/000,000,000,000,000,000 of second before the Big Bang or Genesis if you prefer. I think it is left up to our personal life energy to know the answer. That is why no one has a thumb print that is the same.

Hi Lou, I appreciate the offer but I have already completed all of my investigations in the cornucopia of belief systems. I have completed the circle and I have mine. Most all people can point at ugliness in any of the religions past and present. They have humans who think in them. Humans fail daily or at least I do.

Billy Graham said it best one evening at the opening of a service in Yankee Stadium. He said basically, This place tonight is not full of perfect people, it is full of sinners. People who have not lived up to what they expect of themselves in the way they behave and believe. Mr. Graham is also sort of an outcast to the three main religions of the world. Tolerated but so so.

Is the ID part that other than at least you know my identity or I can be classified as “crazy, rambling, nonsense”. I am honest about what I believe I have not lived up to in this life. I have no shame nor remorse for the bad judgements and actions I have made in this life.

I think the world would be better off if we were more honest about our real selves and tried to be honest. I think atheist, agnostics, Buddhists, Muslim, Jewish, Christian and Everyone would be better off being honest. I guess maybe we disagree on a relevant value to being honest in life on this planet.

“But the silly part is how they became “sinners.”-Could you explain if I missed what you were meaning by this statement.

Are saying that because you have no silly belief in a God, therefore you have never failed yourself in living up to your expectations of you as a human, so then because there is no such thing as failure, there is no such thing as sin or “the missing of the target”. So I have bought the con job of a bad action has usually bad consequences and I labeled it as becoming a sinner.

So if I have this right there is no such thing as good, bad, right, wrong, or evil and a lie is just one animal deceiving another animal to gain an advantage, no harm, no consequences, no foul. Survival of the fittest.

I use to live such a free thought life, I could do anything I wished to anyone I wished just because I felt like it. It is good to know that there are people on this planet who have impeccable lifestyles and never do harm. I wish I was one of them, but I am not.

“You omitted evidence for god – your personal experiences are irrelevant.”

Lou you’re not doing a grand job of showing any evidence to prove there is no God other than because you say so. Of course my personal experience is only relevant to me, but I affect the world around. What if I am an asshole that is so free I kill people when I feel like it?

More of your empirical evidence of no forcer in the known universe is larger than Lou or more powerful. Where is your evidence?

    Hi Scott,

I hope you and yours is doing well. Beautiful weather here in Texas. Billy Graham is one of the cleanest men I have ever heard. He actually tried to live what he believed in. Like him or not I think the more that we can be honest about who we are is better while we are alive on this planet. Take care.

There are no moral absolutes. Morality is the product of social forces.

“Lou you’re not doing a grand job of showing any evidence to prove there is no God other than because you say so.

I not making an original claim that there is no god. YOU and theists make the claim that there is god. My “claim” is only that until you provide evidence of god, then it’s nothing but faith – for which YOU have no evidence.

I CLAIM there’s an invisible purple gnome that lives in my dishwasher. He only speaks to me, and only I can see him. Prove he doesn’t exist as I described. If you reply that you don’t believe it without evidence, that’s NOT A CLAIM. MY CLAIM requires evidence, not your rejection of MY CLAIM.

Why is that so difficult to understand? Why does that have to explained to you people over and over and over?

“Of course my personal experience is only relevant to me, but I affect the world around. What if I am an asshole that is so free I kill people when I feel like it?”

What if you are? Your point?

“More of your empirical evidence of no forcer in the known universe is larger than Lou or more powerful. Where is your evidence?”

I didn’t make any such claim. Now you’re making straw man arguments. My comment to you and all other theists who claim there is a god is to provide evidence of it, or admit they have none and their belief is simply one of faith, or recant their claim. It’s that simple.

    Hi Lou,

You are right. As I said in the beginning post, I have never said this is for anyone other than for someone who has what is called a spiritual experience and comes to believe in God. Then they believe in God based on what they experienced and have faith in that. A dramatic change, inhuman change took place in my life. It is mine not yours. You have to have your own and I also believe it is available within and to us all.

I understand the no moral absolutes thing. The world really does need a guy like me to have moral absolutes in this life on this planet. The world really does not need a guy like me going into “ survival of the fittest mode.”

I understand also because of my crutches and vices for needing a God who helps me navigate, I am considered inferior, weak minded and primitive. It is odd to me you will only accept another human being making some good, positive changes in their life if they did it “your way or the highway”. I thought you were more open minded than that.

Everyone who has been here and is ever going to be here will have an individual, unique, thumbprint. I am not selling anything here Lou, you are.

I have respect for Deepak Chopra and many others. My belief is even even more focused than Deepak Chopra because my guy is Jesus Christ, the full circle. Jesus is the one everyone keeps stumbling over, arguing about and avoiding. I know you cannot factually, historically, or archeologically discount a man named Jesus Christ being here. It is in many record and archives. Don’t even start to say well the records are all falsified. You know that is more of your crap argument to justify your own delusions and thought. Now that we know Jesus existed what next?

Jesus could have only been 1 of 3 things. 1. A completely insane nut job, 2. a master con artist or 3. He was exactly who He said He was, God. No in betweens on that one if you follow the evidence and facts. If you go and look at the factual recorders and play out all three choices, the facts point one direction only.

You really are ignorant. No moral absolutes doesn’t equal no morals or emotions. The rest of your comments are as equally ignorant, and as such, don’t deserve a reply.

    Hi Lou,

How ignorant can you get to believe “there are no more absolutes” and so you made some morals up to live by just because. Why do you place governors or limits on yourself in a world of “survival of the fittest”. Or are they floating morals based on when you need them.

How ignorant also to exhibit invisible, non-factual emotions that you do not fundamentally believe in scientifically because they are not based in fact and you can’t see or prove their existence. That must be frustrating to one of the highest on the food change.

How ignorant also to be alive and yet you scientifically, factually do not believe in life. You can’t prove where it comes from. If you say the brain your screwed, because plants do not have brains, just systems and yet they are alive and then they die.

The rest of my stuff is ignorant because you do not want to deal with it and/or have zero explanation.

I will give you kudos on smarts though for not biting on my belief in Jesus. Ignorance would be an argument about the physical proof, facts and evidence in the first place. I served up my belief in Jesus Christ as a fat slow pitch and you won’t even go there to explain the factual, historical, or archeological evidence about Him.

The rest of my stuff is ignorant because you do not want to deal with it and/or have zero explanation, just different brain made delusions than I exhibit.

Can you say nonsense or what? There’s no evidence that the Jesus Christ you worship existed. That you think there is is rather a sad commentary on your lack of insight but is a tribute to the extent of the brainwashing conveyed upon you by the church and your desperation to believe in a “higher power” that is looking out for you.

Well, you missed out answer #4; an invention of a group of nomadic goat-herders based upon previously existing stories and myths. And what factual recorders are you talking about? Please describe what extra-biblical contemporary recorders you are talking about? Or do you mean the well-known forgeries that you want us to pretend aren’t forgoes. Kind of convenient, I suppose.

Religion’s battle cry: Please respect our silly superstitions and don’t tell us that we are talking crap, then we’ll do the same for you.

Michael, it’s quite easy to respect you as a person whilst pointing out that your arguments are nonsensical and rationalizations. Don’t expect respect for your arguments when they are nonsensical and irrational. You’re calling out tone when you should be providing evidence.

Correct me if I am wrong, but you’ve made assertions but provided absolutely no evidence whatsoever. That’s why your arguments get no respect. Perhaps you are used to a situation where people mention “beliefs” and accord them “respect” which is another way of saying they don’t bother to examine them critically for fear that their own shortcomings be exposed in return.

So, let’s hear or see the evidence that you have for the existence of this god and proof that he manifests or interacts in the here and now. If your god is different, then top marks for being yet another person who has cast god in their own projection (i.e. you made up the god that you wish existed). Still, rather than retreating to arguments about tone, some actual evidence would be nice.

Think about it, you could be the first person in the history of forever to actually provide irrefutable evidence of the existence of a god. Good for you – go for it, I’ll be here when you’re ready.

Respect? I never asked for any respect, nor do I need it. I have my beliefs as silly as you believe them to be. At least I have more evidence for mine in recorded history than the silly notion facts, science and the brain are all that exists.

Science changes daily as they find new facts about how wrong they were in the beginning. We use to be told we could not fly. It is a fact that we can. Bumble bees are also calculated to physically not be able to fly. Just don’t tell the bees the facts and they will be fine, lol.

Michael, notice how you avoid every request for you to show that your god is anything but an imaginary friend. Why do you think you do that?

Is it because you have proof, or is it because the only way you have of dealing with someone questioning you, is to discredit them so as to avoid having to consider their questions?

That’s why your belief is a self-reinforcing delusion and that’s why you are so angry at it being questioned. Were this god real, you’d be easily able to engage in discussion. Instead, you provide endless excuse after excuse, rationalization after rationalization, everything and anything other than actually proving your point. Were this a discussion on anything other then religion you’d see how facile your case is. Instead, you almost certainly think you are beimg attacked, yet that is another hallmark of a cult in that critical thought is suppressed by denigrating anyone who might disagree with you or cause you to question your training.

That, by the way, is another reason why religion is such a dangerous thing and a scourge on society.

    Letters of Pontius Pilate

This would appear hilarious if not for the tragic results that can occur from believing in fiction: many faithful (especially on the internet) have a strong belief that Pontius Pilate actually wrote letters to Seneca in Rome where he mentions Jesus and his reported healing miracles.

Considering the lack of investigational temper of the religious mind, it might prove interesting to the critical reader that the main source for the letters of Pilate come from W. P. Crozier’s 1928 book titled, “Letters of Pontius Pilate: Written During His Governorship of Judea to His Friend Seneca in Rome.” The book cites Crozier as the editor as if he represented a scholar who edited Pilate’s letters. Well, from the title, it certainly seems to indicate that Pilate wrote some letters doesn’t it? However, unbeknownst or ignored by the uncritical faithful, this book represents Crozier’s first novel, a fictionalized account of what he thought Pilate would have written.

During the first publication, no one believed this novel represented fact and reviews of the day reveal it as a work of fiction.

Crozier, a newspaper editor, went to Oxford University and retained an interest in Latin, Greek and the Bible. He wrote this novel as if it represented the actual letters of Pilate. Of course no scholar would cite this as evidence because no letters exist of Pilate to Seneca, and Seneca never mentions Jesus in any of his writings.

The belief in Pilate’s letters represents one of the more amusing fad beliefs in evidential Jesus, however, it also reveals just how myths, fakes, and fictions can leak into religious thought. Hundreds of years from now, Crozier’s fictionalized account may very well end up just as ‘reliable’ as the gospels.

Conversely, those of us that live in the real world relish every second of it and feel nothing other than sadness for those of you wasting your time in pursuit of a non-existent after life. It’s beyond stupid for you to try to pretend that someone unaffected by your delusion hates life.

As for following the Jesus story. Yes, we have – isn’t it time you did the same for yourself? The fact that you can offer nothing more than emotional appeals and personal comments is proof enough that you have nothing to offer other than you desire for your fantasy to be reality.

It really is disappointing how the typical response from a theist to being asked to provide evidence is to attack the character of others. I know it’s all you have, but it’s still pathetic and rather sad.

I never even mentioned letters to Seneca to anyone. You do realize the Romans were meticulous at recording government business as well as important daily events. I will give you kudos DPK, you at least read something instead of just making it up and acting like you read.

No matter your conclusion or your personal hatred or denial of Him, the trial of Jesus Christ from Nazareth happened and then Jesus was crucified along with two thieves. Recorded history from several different sources, views and angles in the records of the event.

Hi Lou, I stand corrected on screwing up The Invisible Purple Gnome lives in my DISHWASHER. It reminded me of the gerbil cage of intellect I used to keep myself in. The Invisible Purple Gnome that lives in your DISHWASHER is a better image. Constant intellectual circles that go nowhere except you have soap suds.

Lou, Ask your friend with the Geologic Survey if the Bible has been accurate Historically as far dates, names and places, Geologically as far as locations and places described, Archeologically verified with relics and artifacts from the people of that day and time and so far the future which we are in now looks almost identical to the way the Bible said it would.

The question was not, “is your friend a Believer in Jesus Christ or what his opinion of Jesus. Is the Bible an accurate book of recorded history. There you will find a cornucopia of scientists from all studies that say, “yes it is an accurate book in those areas. That would include scientists who are believers and non-belivers who are trying to find their way out of your intellectual washing machine.

    Hi Severin and Anonymous,

Why not Allah? I studied what Allah had to say and compared that to his actions. I did this with many of the religions to find the answer, why not Allah, why not Buddha? Some in the Jewish faith at the time of the crucifixion, witnessed the event and made the decision that Jesus was the Messiah, some in the Jewish faith are still waiting on the Messiah today. They did not believe Jesus met all of the signs which told of One, the Messiah that was coming.

The difference is the things Jesus Christ said matched his actions 100%. While He was on this planet Jesus had more integrity. He walked the same way He talked. He was a decent Man, never hurt anyone, except maybe their pride and ego. His claim was to be the Son of God. That was different than the rest. I followed and investigated His claim as best I could and discovered what the Bible calls Jesus, a stumbling block to trip over. Too many witnesses from too many angles writing the same things about the guy named Jesus.

Lou’s Purple Gnome is still trapped in the intellectual washing machine by his ego that does not want to deal with the story of Jesus Christ.

I found myself trapped in my intellectual Gerbil Cage arguing that I was right. I was right, right along with Lou and his Purple Gnome in the Washing Machine for 25 years arguing while I was pissing on life, creation and those around me.

I made the fatal intellectual mistake of following the historical records of a Man named Jesus Christ of Nazareth. I investigated without the years of hate, anger, resentment I had been taught. I decide I was free to change my circle of friends, I was free from the Gerbil Cage.

Man that was too long winded. I could have served soup in the soup line to 50 people already. That is the problem with thinking and no action. Faith is an action.

Bottom Line: You guys need to start reading books instead of just telling people you read books. My personal Jihad if you will is this; Why do I have so much hate and contempt for this guy named Jesus and the decent things He did for people while He was here? Let go and let God, LOL!

Jesus overcame the “death” caused by listening to the darker side of our nature. And then Cain killed Able. It did not say Cain had was forced to kill Able. Cain mad a decision to kill Able. I don’t know why people make those kinds of destructive decisions. The point is there is a better and higher path to follow which leads to everlasting life.

It was not different than the rest!
Millions of kings, emperors, lunatics and frauds, who were confirmed to be historical figures, claimed they were gods.
Tuthankamon is only one example of millions.
Why would I trust Jesus, and would not trust Tuthankamon?

„He died and rose from the grave with witnesses recording the event.“

IF Jesus existed, and IF he was crucifixed:
He was on the cross for about 2.5 to 3 hours.
He was put down the cross, brought to the tomb, and let alone there.

    Scenario that makes sense:
He was not dead, only unconscious, when put down the cross. He recovered in the tomb, and walked out, maybe alone, and maybe assisted by some of his disciples or ladies who came to wash him.
He, and his discples understood how enormeous capital is in the story of his resurrection, and they thought the story up, accepted it, and spread the story around.

Not very reliably, just look the differences in descriptions!

    Nothing but a fraud.

    Hi Curmudgeon,

C.S Lewis and what was called Lewis’s Trilemma. Basically the investigation of Jesus Christ, His life, His words and His actions on trial. THe results you end up with is what Lewis described as Jesus is a “Lunatic, Liar or Lord” or “Mad, Bad or God. I also liked Strobel’s, A case for Christ. Many different angles of view of this Guy who finally said basically He and His Father, God are one in the same.

The movie on Netflix streaming “The Quatum Activist” is a lot of fun. This man has one of the simplest views of the properties of God which the Bible describes such as Omniscient, Omnipresent and can prove them easily possible through modern physics and string theory. He is also fun to listen to. Just food for thought. The transfiguration is not far fetched in science.

Bottom Line: When you have popped out of the intellectual gerbil cage, arguing a magnificent world going nowhere, you are close to being saved and close to being a follower of the Creator and Jesus Christ. You just have to stop arguing, and accept. That’s difficult for the ego to accomplish.

Let me know if you have any good ones Curmudgeon.

Oh there is one called “Incredible Creatures that Defy Evolution. Great photography and good science from believers who happen to be scientist. Also on Netflix Streaming.

What is up with teaching failed theories in science as fact?

I, an atheist, don’t have an answer for everything. I’m not too sure about dark energy or matter. But, I would be foolish to suggest that a god is the force propelling the accelerating universe. Maybe the universe is not speeding up, but the color shift suggests otherwise.

That there are people older than 5 years old, who are not in hospitals being treated for brain injuries or mental illness, and who desperately want to believe that the subject of evolution being indisputable fact wasn’t settled years ago, speaks volumes as to why American education is the laughing stock of the first world.

Really, Americans need to see how people laugh at them every day of the week when the subject of supposedly-educated people believing in rib-women and talking snakes comes up. If you could all see that, then maybe you’d be a little more proactive at either locking up or ridiculing these imbeciles that continue to waste your time with such stupid and pointless arguments.

  131. on 02 Feb 2012 at 2:36 am 131.Michael said …

    Hi Alex and Anonymous,

I am not an expert at any of this stuff other than I studied a lot of things on my own for my own life. I also do not appreciate American or World History being tinkered with in either direction.

The archeological records, fossils, manuscripts, hieroglyphs, scrolls and such, most of the time are more correct in translations because they did not have as hi grade of agendas or media as modern society. I have read that way back the scribes were meticulous about recording the written word. They did not have a delete button. Romans got killed for screwing it up.

I also do not think every contribution from evolution scientist has been a lie or a hoax. Good science is good science, bad is bad. There are some know facts about speculative claims in evolution that have been proved to be lies. It should be recanted with no embarrassment, but definitely not taught.

I do know the Lucy find was severely debunked by most scientist at the time. It is still taught and highly regarded. You will still see full size figures of an ape-like woman in museums and stuff. There were not enough bones found to put that together like that and then to tie into the human tree of apes was wrong.

Scales that evolved into feathers and vice versa. A bird has to come out the egg with all systems ready to grow up and fly or it dies, not evolve. Scale material is to heavy for flight. Feathers are a horrible permanent underwater material, that’s all. Some of that stuff, in fact a lot of that stuff does not make mathematical or chemical sense.

Oh and by the way, Anonymous, chill out, you backwards Troglodyte, it’s just a theory not enough facts to be other than a hypothesis, lol. Those children are not undergoing evolution by almost all accounts.

Today I suspect man’s use of chemicals for everything in life is to blame for many things that are abnormalities. Especially in the U.S. We sell Round Up to kill Dandelions. Dandelions are a great food eaten all over the world. You can eat the entire plant and it is extremely healthy for you. There are great recipes on line to use it with. What a crop, they grow like…weeds…we poison them as fast as possible. No wonder we have no fireflies near cities and active farms.

I prefer dandelions and seeing fireflies at night. And we could use a few more honeybees. We will regret wiping them out.

If evolution was in full swing we should see the mutant in between skeletons everywhere in every species and we don’t.

This is to funny! Lou, do you know who the head of the human genome project? Right, a Christian and a strong one. He believes in God. Yes, what is wrong with him?

and let’s hear what Francis Colins, who headed the human genome project, and is a christian, has to say about the matter…

“Yes, evolution by descent from a common ancestor is clearly true. If there was any lingering doubt about the evidence from the fossil record, the study of DNA provides the strongest possible proof of our relatedness to all other living things.

But why couldn’t this be God’s plan for creation? True, this is incompatible with an ultra-literal interpretation of Genesis, but long before Darwin, there were many thoughtful interpreters like St. Augustine, who found it impossible to be exactly sure what the meaning of that amazing creation story was supposed to be. So attaching oneself to such literal interpretations in the face of compelling scientific evidence pointing to the ancient age of Earth and the relatedness of living things by evolution seems neither wise nor necessary for the believer.”

    You conveniently ignore the bible:

“For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God sent the Son into the world, not to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him. He (She) who believes in him is not condemned; he who does not believe is condemned already because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.” –John 3:16-18

God may not “need approval,” but he sure is pissy about not getting it – and that’s only one sample.

Yes, but at least Colins is honest about it. His belief is a personal choice based on faith, not evidence or even rationality. Colins would never submit a scientific paper or present a theory with “then god performs a miracle…” as an element or explanation. He is good, as most believers are, at segregating and compartmentalizing their religious beliefs from reality. A devout christian will tell you they have faith that god is looking out for them and answers their prayers, but when their kid is sick they take them to a doctor, not a priest. They believe god loves them, but when they get cancer, well.. it’s part of god’s mysterious plan. They claim absolute morality only comes from god, but then decide not to follow some of god’s commandments because they are clearly immoral, and the rationalization for this is that the immoral commandments were a long time ago.

    Exactly. Collins wrote:

“Instead, as I was beginning to understand from looking into my own heart, the evidence of God’s existence would have to come from other directions, and the ultimate decision would be based on faith, not proof.”

And why? Because there is no evidence for god. Even for Collins, god exists only in the imagination, just as for the theists here, he rationalizes god’s existence.

Well, Crum won’t answer you because the answers won’t support his cause.

In the same way that Hor threw up Anthony Flew as someone to look up to, even though Flew despised Christianity, Crum will gloat over Collins, yet, Collins rejects ID and creationism adopting the cop-out of claiming theistic evolution.

I suppose in their cherry-picking minds as long as they can point to a scientist who is christian, that supports their view. It’s sort of like how they can focus on a few parts of the bible and ignore most of it and still claim their book of fairy stories to be both relevant and correct.

So, Crum, how about it. Collins has no evidence for the existence of his god and admits it’s all faith (belief without evidence). He rationalizes away the obvious disconnects as he’s determined to maintain his belief no matter what. You claim proof, though. How about you share it with us?

I guess that almost proves this is not about the “survival of the fittest” model of evolution. It seems it would have been an easy thing and almost just plain sense that the highest life form, a human, could regenerate itself like a starfish or an earthworm. Nothing could harm us except old age, but then we could replicate ourselves along the way and never really die.

I am sure this pack of backwards Troglodytes and the High Priest would not enjoy 297 copies of Michael of different ages in this cult. Not good for the planet either to have the best thinkers, humans, with the ability to replicate. By cutting your fingers off and each would grow a new you? Not good design.

But my real question is, why an amputee?

What is going to be beautiful is the learning process all in this group are going through from discussing and arguing. All of us are learning about God and false gods even when you disagree with idea of The One God or Creator, The Alpha and The Omega.

This is exactly the story of the Love God has for His children (creation). God would rather see His children wrestle and resist Him mentally and physically than reject the Love all together God knows we struggle with these things and the arguments are okay. Eventually we argue ourselves into the a trap which releases us from our squirrel cage of intellect.

Then we get the chance to meet God on God’s terms instead of our terms and conditions. Then we will find a love that penetrates the deepest darkest voids.

That is why I am hanging out for a while. I want to see the squirrel cages open and full grown spiritual human beings emerge. The arguing itself, God can use for His own desires and plans. His plans are always pointing all of us back to God and Love.

Turning Satan’s crap and man’s crap into Solid Gold. God is the only One capable of that miracle. The Great Spiritual Alchemist working His wonders.

So this is a good thing happening here. Argue away pro or con it does not matter, God has us covered.

I’ll give you and your ilk credit for one thing – you constantly remind us of the rampant ignorance that scientists of hundreds and thousands of years ago faced when people like you threw rocks at the moon. The beautiful answer is no, “It will never end”. God has no end or beginning. God is the Alpha and Omega. His Grace always increases in direct proportion to the hatred and arguing increasing. God does not mind His Highest Creation arguing and reasoning about Him or His Creation. This is a good thing going on here. It always will lead back to God the Creator of all things.

I was thinking the same thing… I was expecting the Horattio facet to emerge, but it’s long missing Rostam, back to continue the legacy of the worse case of multiple personality disorder ever documented.
Hor, Rostram, Ben, whichever one you want to pretend to be now… let me ask you a question. Doesn’t it strike you as odd that something you claim is so self evident needs an entire section of the bookstore devoted to texts designed “…to equip believers with a ready defense for the next decade and beyond…” You would think your all powerful god would be able to present a bullet proof case for his own existence. Yet, you need professional apologists who devote their lives to “explaining” to you how to rationalize away all the mountains of problems with your faith. Curious.

FWIW, I don’t think Michael is the same person as Curm, Rostram, Ben, and Xenon. But I could be wrong.

Yeah, the world would be a nicer place for people like you if everyone just accepted your empty platitudes as acceptable and respected your delusions. If that’s what you want, why are you here? Go where people won’t challenge you to actually provide some evidence that any of the extraordinary claims you make about the nature of reality and the existence of gods and magic are actually true. Maybe so, I would not know, and I would not care, but the million dollar question is: IF Jesus existed, then WHAT?
Why would existance of a demagogue tramp who claimed he was a god be important and exciting for anyone 2000 years after his possible existance?

This is so kindergarten. his claims versus his actions in his life fall short. No witnesses to any events, miracles, healing, walking through walls. No records, no writings, no witnesses.

More examples of empty human claims and nothing to show.

Man-made global warming or is it global cooling or is it climate change? Falsified evidence again taints the records.

Man-made evolution. Where are the millions of mutant in-between stage fossil records? Whales with feathered wing flippers for swimming. A hoax or faked evidence does not count as evidence. That is called a fraud.

UFO’s and Aliens. Artifacts from ancient civilizations have survived thousands of years and we cannot find one thing. Not even a helmet or turn signal, nothing.

    Vampires, empty.

    Flat earth, empty.

The stories and signs written in advance of His arrival point to Jesus of Nazareth being The Messiah, The Savior, God. He was also important and made enough impact to change the calendar. I am a believer in His story as is told in the Bible.

You can add that to the long list of things you have thought about that are 100% wrong.

“The atheist have no inclination to research this matter of God.”

I’ve researched gods. I’ve read the bible in iys entirety… almost twice (couldn’t get through it the 2nd time and had to give up)… have you?
Besides, you just got done spend 2 weeks trying to convince us that the fact that you can’t produce evidence for gods doesn’t mean anything. Why would you research something you have already convinced yourself there is no proof for? If you have changed your mind, again, and now think your research CAN provide proof for god, as you said last month… well we are still waiting to hear it. But let’s pre-empt a rehash of the tired arguments:
Causality: As has been pointed out the idea of the universe needing a caused has been dealt a death blow, or at least been provided a strong alternative by quantum mechanics which demonstrates that “somethings” pop in and out of existence routinely. Also, you never address your own paradox of if the universe required a god to create it, who created the god. So, yeah, no.
The “fine tuning” argument.. the anthropic principal and “M” theory provide reasonable explanations for that… so yeah, not proof of a god.
Morality: The idea of a god as the giver of absolute moral law is completely debunked by even a casual reading of the bible… well at least the biblical god anyway. Morality has evolved from biblical times, so god’s moral law is clearly not absolute.

Now to the point of want to argue that you are right and defend nothing… did those words seriously emanate from YOUR keyboard?? Seriously? That is the height of hypocrisy coming from you who never, ever, answers a direct question or challenge. If I had 4 hours to waste I could go back through the threads and list every direct question or challenge I have presented to you that you have completely ignored… but it would probably exceed the word limit here. Jesus, you have brass balls saying that…. what an ass you are, and I say that with seriously, the utmost contempt.

Ok, let’s try this. Michael, do you REALLY want to tell us about your god, or are you just here trolling? Let’s try the first one.

First, what is it that you believe in? Is it the god of the Bible exactly as described there, or something else? If it’s the latter, tell us, describe its characteristics. How did you come to this god?

Now what leads you to that deity and not, say, Allah?

Finally, what’s with the constant harping on evolution? Even if it were false, it says nothing about how else things may have occurred.

So, rather than ignoring questions, which is what creates the ire, there are some perfectly fair questions. It’s all up to you now.

  237. on 11 Feb 2012 at 11:52 pm 237.alex said …

“Finally, what’s with the constant harping on evolution?”

…because there’s ONLY TWO choices. god or evolution. since, evolution is not fer sure, god rules. you’re either with us or against us crap. either you go to heaven or you go to hell bullsheet.

  238. on 12 Feb 2012 at 12:00 am 238.DPK said …

That’s not really true. There are LOTS of educated religious people who acknowledge the reality of evolution, but still believe in a god. Francis Colins is a prime example. If I was trying to make a case FOR god, I would certainly jump on evolution as a brilliant idea only a god could conceive and execute, not fight a loosing battle that can only serve to make me look foolish in the face of insurmountable evidence….
Michael’s question about why we don’t see whales with feathers only serves to highlight his ignorance and stupidity… like Christine O’Donnell who said “If evolution is true, how come we don’t see monkeys turning into humans TODAY?” No wonder creationists are the laughing stock of the educated world.

“There are LOTS of educated religious people who acknowledge the reality of evolution, but still believe in a god”.

This may be true, but if they believe in the christian god, it’s bull. I can’t see how you can reconcile creationism and evolution. You’d have to write off Genesis.

  240. on 12 Feb 2012 at 12:29 am 240.DPK said …

That’s not hard either. You can write off Genesis as an allegory for the big bang… not to be taken literally. As has been stated here before, even the Pope acknowledges the FACT of evolution as reality. A Catholic priest “discovered” the big bang. When your belief set is based on rationalization, you can rationalize just about anything. That’s not really a surprise…. and when all that fails, there is always the theistic get out of jail free card, “god is mysterious.” It’s worked for thousands of years.

Good morning all. I hope you and yours are having a fine day in paradise. A little bit on the chilly side today.

ANONYMOUS ASKED-”First, what is it that you believe in?”

I am a believer and follower of Jesus Christ of Nazareth. That is to the best of my ability as a human being who admittedly fails regularly. I believe Jesus was exactly who He said He was, God. God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit are the original designers which interact with the Creation.

I believe 100%, word for word what the Bible has to offer as an accounting of what has happened in the past, what is happening currently and what will happen in the future on planet earth. All of us are predictably following exactly what the Bible says we will follow in this life. Just take a look around at humanity. The Bible paints a portrait of life on planet earth. So far the portrait is very accurate to the events we see. Let me correct that in saying, the Bible is accurate to what I see happening. I am a believer. Many believers and non-believers think things are going just fine on planet earth. No problem with me, you are a free creation.

ANONYMOUS ASKED-”Now what leads you to that deity and not, say, Allah?”

Allah, and the rest fall short as a Messiah. The signs are not there, they did not do anything to raise human beings to a higher path. I have studied the rest as well. There are some good tenets and principles but still fall short of correcting anything.

HOW DID I COME TO THIS BELIEF?

I followed what I was taught as a child growing up in America in the 1960’s. I followed mankind’s rules of what is important and the fun things to do. I lived a life of going after anything and everything I wanted, when I wanted it. I was taught to smile, be nice, be courteous, be polite, be unselfish. If that did not work then I should be stern, angry, deceitful, selfish, lie, cheat or steal it to get my way and what I wanted. Life in America.

In my mid-twenty’s my life I had built, turned on me and started to self destruct. It was a hollow empty life of people I had run over and harmed. People who mattered to me. It was, in my opinion, a shallow existence of me getting my way with rules to be used to my gain. I felt I needed out of that thinking which underlies society in general. It was poor decisions and actions on my part which led me to some basic tenets, principles and rules for living a life which feels full and more complete.

I believe most people screw the message of the Bible and Jesus Christ up by tying it to religious organizations which have done some historically horrible things. Religious Organizations have men in them that are not following the message, but going for the fulfillment of self interest at any cost.

Any of the processes or sciences, such as evolution are and can be a part of the Creator’s Design recorded in Genesis. It was however a flaw to try and replace God with a man made theory, process or science. And then filled with hoaxes.

I have answered this stuff before in this group and was ridiculed and made fun of for the poor, ignorant, stupid, 3rd grade moronic, imbecilic, troglodyte decisions I made in life. You are right. The good news is I changed and now scrutinize human beings and the man made rules they operate by. I now have a personal constitution and do not listen or look to humans for my answers. I count on me and my personal relationship with The Creator instead.

AS USUALL: My story is your manna to chew on for your daily sustenance. Have fun! Bring on the Grace!

Give my regards to the High Priest. Carry on!

    Hi Alex,

Yep, a free pass because I listened to His story and answered the question He was asking of “Who Am I” and I said I think He is, this Jesus, The Messiah. The rest of all of this mess is for Him to sort out just like He says He does in His story.

The funny thing is once you pick someone you like the way they lived their lives and decide to follow their actions does not mean you will do it perfectly. “The Point IS”, Jesus took care of that for us “Because We Are Incapable of Living a Faultless Life.”

EXAMPLE: His parable of “Any man so who so much as thinks a lustful thought of a woman, has broken all the commandments.” He raised the bar on our capabilities as humans, His Creation, to leaping a 10 story building.”

I have heard some in religion say we are to strive to live up to that high bar He placed their. I believe His message was “Don’t you get it, He understood I cannot do this.” We could not go or do what He was about to go and do. We fail. I’ll keep this to me, I fail daily. I don’t know if there is a man that ever lived from birth to death without a lustful thought.”

I saw where He taught we could not do it. After I tried just following how He lived for a while I found I was doing less and less things wrong in life. I actually try to do the right thing. Mistakes happen thought. Perfection in humans is not taught in The Bible, it is a target for humans to shoot for with a tiny gun of reasoning.

I agree with you though, the priesthood needs to be purged of that trash. It does tremendous damage to everyone physically, mentally and spiritually. People take it to mean everyone in the group is the same. Jesus gets the blame for His teaching which He never taught. Those priests or pedophiles are not following the teachings of Jesus. Then again we all or at least I know I have my skeletons and a closet to put them in.

” I am okay with the elephants and other creatures that express these weird invisible things called emotions.”

First off, they aren’t weird and they aren’t invisible. They are chemical reactions in your brain and nervous system, and since we share characteristics of out central nervous system with many animals, why would it surprise you that animals experience many of the same feelings we do? They see like us, hear like us, taste and touch and smell, just like we do. Weren’t you the one who just a few days ago was telling us that humans were the only animals that could reason?? Now you’re telling us that elephants understand death and feel grief over the loss of companion? Make up your mind. Do animals get an eternal life too? If not, how come, didn’t god make them too?

  251. on 14 Feb 2012 at 2:04 am 251.Michael said …

I’m with Alex on it is all good. I do not mind hearing a different angle.

I have always been intrigued by the invisibles, intangible, unexplainable properties around us. For me there is a definite power and rhythm to it all.

There definitely are creatures that reason, but we are the supposedly the most capable on the food chain. I think I read somewhere that humans have a much stronger awareness of self than most any of the animals.

Chemical reactions don’t solve all the puzzles. I read about some research that maybe some of it is more like a vibration or wavelength.

There is a bird that lays its eggs and then the two parents with all the others migrate a few thousand miles away to live out their lives. When the parents leave with the other parents, they do not return. The eggs hatch, without parents, they grow up, they lay eggs and leave. They fly a few thousand miles over the ocean to the same island they have never been to before. There is no imprinting, it is a straight line, no circle. I like some things in this life to puzzle over.

Electricity for example is still the theory of electricity. We can make, store it, see it and control it. We do not know why it exists, what is it for in all of its form. I hope it was not put her to light New York City, lol. I enjoy a good unsolved mystery without doubt. It seems to be human.

It certainly would not bother me if animals were there and had a shot at things. I believe if we have an energy source or spirit, then they would also. But that is just my opinion. I am not a conventional Bible reader. There is a line back in Revelations which refers to the lambs lying down with the lions, but that is a deep one.

Has God reinvented himself into a modern day healing God that heals world class athletes so that His fame can be seen on TV? Is He so small and hidden that the only way to display his powerd is by telivision? Seems to me this God is egotistical to the utmost. If he really had love, his first mission would be to heal the sick children on earth, expecting nothing in return. And He would do it without the right-wing christian missionaries whose hidden agenda is to open up other countries to religion so the government can come in the back door and take over the natural resources and thus leave the people in worse conditions than when the supposed Christian God,with his missionaries, showed up.

No, you don’t understand that you don’t understand.

We’re too puny to comprehend why an all-powerful and all-loving god allows his subjects to suffer. Our brains would explode if we tried to understand why Yahweh pays more attention to American Football over, say, starving children.

You see, it’s just a matter of having sufficient faith. Without the right king of faith in the right god bad stuff happens. It’s not god’s fault if we don’t believe in him.

When things go well, it’s god – no matter that it’s indistinguishable from god not existing but that’s proof that he does exist! Don’t you get that? The Christian god is so amazing that he can make the world appear to operate as if he didn’t exist. He’s that damn powerful that he make it that he can never be proven to exist. Some trick, eh?

So why do bad things happen to good people? Well, that’s a test of faith of course! Also, god doesn’t want us to rely on him loving us, it’s enough that we simply know he loves us and that he sends hurricanes, plagues, famine, droughts and stuff in order that we can know how life would be without his protection.

It’s so simple and if only the atheists and those pesky scientists could understood that god loves them. Then they could stop looking for cures for crippling diseases and ways to make life better for everyone. Then we could all live happily in bronze-age squalor and ignorance, just like in the bible

Brother 252.Clay, God loves us all equally, and he chooses when people will die. He does not make that decision based of ethnic group or religion or country, he makes the decision based on when a person is ready to leave the Earth.

Brother 253.Anonymous, god loves all people equally. He does not favor anyone over anyone else, we are all equal under him.

Suffering occurs in our lives as a test to teach us to keep our moral values even in the face of danger or pain of anykind. If we succeed in staying kind, compassionate, loving, and forgiving people durring our time on Earth, we will go to heaven as soon as we die. But if we live greedy, prideful, hateful, or jealous lives, then we will spend some time in hell until we are sent to purgatory to receive another chance to be good people.

    Thomas, you a mindless idiot.

Both men and women are not suppose to act slutty and sexual towards others.

Doron Matalon was showing off her body to others in a sexual, lustful way, and was therefore wrong.

Men are assigned the job of spreading the word of GOD threw preaching and assisting the poor and sick people of the world.

Women were assigned the job of spreading GOD’s message threw only helping the poor and sick(aka kind actions).

Women are capable of preaching, but its just not their job. Its not discrimination.

She was sitting on a bus, you fool.
Then the theist tosser came and forced his deluded beliefs onto her.
    He was wrong.

“Men are assigned the job of spreading the word of GOD threw preaching and assisting the poor and sick people of the world.”

    And that would be sexist.

“Women were assigned the job of spreading GOD’s message threw only helping the poor and sick(aka kind actions).”

    Again, sexist.

“Women are capable of preaching, but its just not their job. Its not discrimination.”

Pushing out 50% of the world’s population for a single job, is discrimination.
Especially when both parties are mentally, and physically capable of doing so.

Religion is man’s futile attempt to save himself. The Jews failed miserably at this and the modern Christian church has fallen into the same old trap that Jesus came to free us from. Read the Bible without a coach and get the truth. Get the E-Sword and see what the original languages say to you. Religious leaders are steeped in traditional ritual and ceremony and very few of these highly trained individuals have found the relationship to their God which is the only way to finally discern what the Scriptures are saying. 1st Corinthians 2:14 Paul explains this very important thing about true wisdom,
“The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned.”
Maybe we should stop listening to the commercial church leaders and find out for ourselves.
