WHY IS YOUR GOD AWESOME?

Last week this video was posted to ask, “what’s with the trance-like swaying?“:

The lyrics of the song’s refrain are:

Our God(our God) is an awesome God
He reigns(He reigns) from heaven above
With wisdom(with wisdom) pow’r and love
our God is an awesome God

In the post this question appeared:

WHY IS YOUR GOD AWESOME?

HE LETS THOUSANDS OF CHILDREN STARVE EVERY DAY.

HE KILLS PEOPLE WITH HORRIBLE DISEASES.

HE STANDS BY AS CITIES ARE DESTROYED WITH HURRICANES AND TSUNAMIS

IF YOU BELIEVE THE BIBLE, HE KILLED THE ENTIRE HUMAN RACE (WHICH HE CREATED IN HIS OWN IMAGE) IN A FLOOD.

ACCORDING TO REVELATION HIS PLAN IS TO DESTROY THE ENTIRE PLANET

AND HE WON’T HEAL AMPUTEES!

WHAT IS AWESOME ABOUT THIS DEMON??????????

Good question Christians: why is your God awesome?

All are effects of sin entering the world, death, disease, disaster, famines etc. God does not kill people with horrible diseases, its a result of sin.

“IF YOU BELIEVE THE BIBLE, HE KILLED THE ENTIRE HUMAN RACE (WHICH HE CREATED IN HIS OWN IMAGE) IN A FLOOD.”

I believe the Bible. He did not kill the entire human race. Study the Scriptures and learn why He wiped out all but one family, you will realize why and you will learn the depth and breadth of the evil that existed. You should be thanking Him today.

“ACCORDING TO REVELATION HIS PLAN IS TO DESTROY THE ENTIRE PLANET”

Yes, remodel by fire. It will make the flood look like childs play compared to the devastation and the understated “misery”, that will be thrust upon unrepentant sinners.

    “AND HE WON’T HEAL AMPUTEES!”

    You watch too much TBN

    “WHY IS YOUR GOD AWESOME?”

Because He took it upon Himself to provide a way for a portion of mankind to escape His righteous judgement of sin, something that is impossible for man himself to do. Its called GRACE. Those who repent and believe will live and serve Him for eternity in a new heaven and new earth where there is no more death and suffering.

Two things occur to me about GRACE

is it available to all, or just to christians? what about devout moslems/jews etc?

if he coulsd give us a world without death and suffering, why didn’t he do that in the first place?

    Azriel,

“Two things occur to me about GRACE

    is it available to all,”

In short, only to those who will believe.

“or just to christians? what about devout moslems/jews etc?”

Jews and Muslims who die without belief in the Son of God will be judged according to the law.

“if he coulsd give us a world without death and suffering, why didn’t he do that in the first place?”

He did. It was disobedience that brought sin and death into the world and it is God who will restore all things once again, after the fullness of all the believing has come in.

    dxt,

Do you believe in an omniscient God?
Do you believe in a literal Genesis?

If so, why did God create Adam and Eve, knowing that they would disobey him, and condemn billions of people to hell?
    Did God make a mistake?

Why doesn’t God reveal himself personally to everybody? (inb4 catch-22)

Why is God incapable of forgiving everybody?
Why did God need to kill himself, in order to forgive humans?

    Thank you.

There is no mistake there. God only limited the widespread wickedness of man in the flood judgement. He will utterly destroy it in the future because this present earth is reserved for destruction as well as the ungodly inhabitants(2 Peter 3:7). I dont see a mistake in the judgement of wickedness.

“God does not kill people with horrible diseases, its a result of sin.”

So, “sin”, whatever it is, has nothing to do with god?!

Is, in that case, “sin” some natural phenomenon?
After people do “sins”, desasters come as direct, natural consequence of those “sins”?
People, for example, masturbate a lot, do adultery, do not go to church, do not believe in god, work on sabbath, steal, kill…, then when a lot of such “sins” accumulate, desaster strikes automatically? Without god’s will?
God has nothing to do with it?

What are you trying to say?
Are you telling us there is no god?

I guess I’m a fu***ng sinner! I’ll tell you one thing…I’d rather go to hell than worship this God. It’s very obvious that “DXT” has NEVER read the bible! Because if they really had they would see the terrible things this God has done and is still doing to his children.

Stop listening to the morons you call pastors and ministers and start actually reading the truth for yourself! Get that bible out and start reading. You will then really know what and who this God really is. I should know. I was raised in one of the strictest religions: Seventh-Day Adventist. These people are no joke. And there is no point ever arguing with them. Their God is ALWAYS right and the people who question the “questionable” activities of God are sent by the Devil and his evil minions to lead them astray.

Guess what…At least the Devil and his demons had some common sense. They had the balls to actually question God. I guess I’m going to hell. At least it’ll be nice and warm down there! Time to roast the marshmellows!!!

    Lex,

Wow. You tell me to read the Bible and you were a seventh day adventist? I know what the Scriptures say, have you read it yourself? Or did YOU just follow what your pastor says and not search the Scriptures to see if it were so? Pauls epistle to the Colossians makes it clear concerning the Sabbath my friend as well as clinging to the works of the law. Have they imposed keeping the law on you? Keeping the Biblical Sabbath is all well and good, even though its useless to save, but must not be imposed on others so as to cause an individual to stumble.

    DXT,

I have read the scriptures…many, many times. And I do NOT like what I see. But that’s just me. You do have a right to believe in the Scriptures. Hey, if it makes you happy and makes you become a better person each and everyday day then by all means keep with it.

In the end if you’re happy worshiping a God like that and you feel this God makes you a better person both to yourself and for others then that’s great. As for me, I know what is right and what is wrong and I don’t need God or the Scriptures to tell me what that is and how I need to live my life. And I’m happy with that. And that’s good enough for me. :)

God, as the creator of everything, would be responsible for sin, pain, suffering, hell, evil, imperfection etc. He created EVERYTHING right? And, given his omnipotence he could fix everything if he wanted to, right? But he doesn’t. He who can stop evil, but doesn’t –is evil. You believers are getting your morality from someone who is more immoral than you (or would be, if he actually existed.) That’s not awesome; it’s pathetic.

According to your magic book, god created imperfect people, and with his omniscience, he should have known they’d be imperfect. He could have forgiven them for being imperfect just as moral parents forgive their own kids for being imperfect, but instead he punishes them and all their descendants and kills his kid (who is really him) as a sacrifice to himself for the supposed sins of his less-perfect children like us(who aren’t really him). Where’s the “awesome” in that?

No matter how you dither about and play semantic games, your god would be a total dick if he he were real. Your justifications might sound good to the brainwashed, but do you realize how crazy it sounds to the unindoctrinated? Do you guys even care if what you believe is true!? How about whether it’s good — or even coherent?! I’m not all loving, but I would never create a life if I believed there was the slightest chance it could suffer forever. But you worship a god who did just that– many times over! The biblical god is such an vile, incoherent concept, and still you theists worship “him” and try to get him to make make sense and sound good and glorious in case the invisible tyrant is watching. Think, think– while you still can.

Even if such a sky tyrant did exist, he wouldn’t need you to fight his battles or defend him– he’s omnipotent, remember? He can just zap his enemies or whatever. Why would he need his little imperfect creations to justify the little “just so” stories their indoctrinators suckered them into believing?

You guys know those other religions, like Scientology, that you find crazy? To an atheist, you Christians sound as wacky and delusional as them. I think all theists are awesomely delusional myself.

I LOVE Sister Chromatid! You said it so freaking perfectly! Do you know when I stopped believing in God? When I read the Bible. I can’t understand how anyone can love a God who sends his own people to not only pillage nearby towns (Thou shat not steal) but also kill women and children (Thou shall not kill)! Even so far as having the unborn children ripped out of the women’s belly! Just because they didn’t follow this God!

I mean, really??? Are you for real? Don’t dare tell me that the God of the Old Testament is different or had different rules from the God of the New Testament because that’s utter bull shit! They are both the same God. Remember the 3 in 1 rule. People who claim to love God skip right through these hundreds of passages in the bible. And then if they read it they rationalize it and say that God in his infinite wisdom had a reason to do what he did. Yeah, Ok.

So God in his infinite wisdom feels it’s good to degrade and rape women? To have slaves? To literally kill your teenager if they went to a party and got drunk? To kill little children and little babies? If everyone is so-called a sinner as were the followers of God why single these sinners out??? Supposedly it’s a huge sin to change the word and law of God. So when your son or daughter comes home drunk from a party why aren’t you there waiting to shoot him mortally with a gun?

Why aren’t you raping the hot girl next door? Why aren’t you giving up your possessions, like your tv and internet and car? Why aren’t you killing all of those unbelievers, especially those who break the Sabbath? Why don’t you have slaves in your house? Because it’s awful and wrong. Because your ass will land in jail quicker than you could blink an eye. Yet, you know this is wrong in our society. Yet you follow a God that commands you to do this! God is a dick head. An asshole. And a real dickwad. He can kiss my ass!

And as for the New Testament…God says thou shalt love your mother and father and your neighbors etc.. But then what happens? He then goes and tells you that in order to follow him you have to hate your mother and father and everyone else. Um…which one is it God? To love or to hate? I’m still waiting…

Sister Chromatid said it perfectly.!!!! Nice!

As for me I don’t feel it’s nice to degrade people, rape them, kill children, and hate everyone who doesn’t believe in my beliefs.
    But that’s just me.

But seriously, I tell my parents the following all the time cause they are heavily into this God shit. I tell them I don’t care who they worship. As long as they’re happy with who they are as a person. That’s good enough for me. I will always love my parents. :)

He KILLED them all, including thousands of babies and little children who could not have been sinned bu default.

The KEY words of yours, in you glorious sentence is: “Study the Scriptures…you will REALIZE WHY AND YOU WILL LEARN THE DEPTH OF BREADTH AND EVIL THAT EXISTED”

    Shame on you!
Someone killed thousand of babies, and you are trying to JUSTIFY it!?

WHY? WHY did he “wipe them out (brutally killed them!)?
Because they fucked goats? Because they fucked wifes of other men? Because they worshiped some idols made of clay? because they organized bachanalies?

Are THOSE reasons to kill millions (or, as you say, thousands, which does NOT deminish the crime!)?

Did babies fuck goats and worshiped idols?

    #24 Severin,

Holiness is intolerant of sin. Sin must be justly punished, Holiness demands it. Holiness and love is the essence of Gods nature. Sin and evil is the essence of mans nature. The natural mans thoughts and intentions are evil from his youth(Genesis 8:21, post flood) and do not accept the things of the Spirit of God. (1Co 2:14) “But a natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually appraised.”

    1 Peter 3:18-20

    “For Christ also died for sins once for all, the just for the unjust, so that He might bring us to God, having been put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit;
in which also He went and made proclamation to the spirits now in prison,
who once were disobedient, when the patience of God kept waiting in the days of Noah, during the construction of the ark, in which a few, that is, eight persons, were brought safely through the water.”

Notice Gods patience, and mans continual evil, despite Noahs preaching. Ample time, ample warning to repent. So will the coming of the Son of Man, ample time, ample warning to repent. “For my people are destroyed for their lack of knowledge”(Hosea 4:6).

„Holiness is intolerant of sin. Sin must be justly punished, Holiness demands it. Holiness and love is the essence of Gods nature.“

Love = tollerance, in the first place! That is how I was taught and how I feel.

„Holiness“ that icludes killing of babies and ripping of pregnant women as punishment for „sins“ IS NOT LOVE! It is hate. It is SICK! It just is not normal!

You are saying terrible things by trying to justify ANYONE (including your bestial god) for doing so much pain to so many innocent people, including totally innocent babies.
Is that the way your god is making you a „better person“? BY forcing you to justify his sick crimes?

    Check on your own conscience!

I told alredy here, and I will repeat:
I have the conscience of my own!
If a god appeared to me and confirmed he was biblical god, who really did all what that described in the Bible, and told me I will burn in hell if I do not accept him, I would spit on him!
Better to burn in hell for eternity, than to have all those lives on my conscience for eternity!
I could not bear the severe pangs of conscience for agreeing with his bestilities. I would feel like I personally killed all those babies and pregnant women.
I am not a coward, a chicken, who is ready to sell his soul to a baby killing beast to deserve crumbs from his table.
In case of making choice between supporting evil and burning in hell, I chose burning.

What sort of a „better man“ are you, if you are able to accept and to justify such tremdous crimes of ANYONE, be it a god or whatever? You accept them because you are afraid of hell?
Either you are the same sick beast as your god, or you are a chicken without your own conscience, without your own attitude and without any bravery. Just a chicken!

Are you aware of your words?

No good (and normal!) person could say something as evil as you just said!

I was a child, and I was never evil in my life. I was a good child, good young man, and am still a good human being. I never even ofended anyone in my life.
My doughter is now 31, and she was, and still is, an extraordinary personality, she is a GOOD HUMAN BEING.
Btw, she was never taught about any god(s), she had no religious education of any sort, and she was never baptized.
That is, of course, not a „speciality“ of my family. I knew a lot of wonderful children, who grew to a lot of wonderful young people, and to extraordinary adult human beings, who never did anything evil in their lives, and who had nothing to do, ever, with any religion.
From the other side, I did see (or learn about) evil adults belonging to various religions.

Sorry, but something essential is wrong with you if you can say (or support the idea) that children (or young people) are somehow „automatically evil“, just because they are young.
It is really very sick to think that way!

However, I am not so naive to believe I have never did, said or thought something evil. If you make this claim, you deceive yourself because God’s standards are higher than ours. Because of this I need a savior. Thanks to Jesus that my debt has been settled.

This has nothing to do with religion or being good. Many religious people are no closer to God than an atheist.

But Jesus was pro-slavery, a misogynist, and openly spoke of a future terrorist plot to kill 99% of the world’s population. OT God liked the smell of burning animals, promoted stoning and burning people alive, and sent bears to kill small children for no good reason.

I’m much happier to be good in the world’s eyes than in God’s. Why would I care what a sick homicidal fuck like God, or a moral relativist planning to torture people in Hell like Jesus, thinks of my morality?

The world is far from perfect. But, at least in most places in the world, the sick shit that is in the Bible is frowned upon. (Except in Saudi Arabia and other ass backwards places where they still stone people.) We’ve at least made that much progress.

However, I am not so naive to believe I have never did, said or thought something evil. If you make this claim, you deceive yourself because God’s standards are higher than ours.

Based on what are God’s standards “higher”? He is a sick fuck who still thinks being gay or masturbating is a sin — but slavery is OK as long as you follow the guidelines of how hard to beat the slaves. If it was some random person saying things, we would laugh at them.

I do not recognize “sins” I recognize only crimes, and I am not doing them.
I also recognize morality as “unwritten law”, an I keep behaving in accordance to moralities:
    1. hat my parents taught me
    2. According to my feelings
My main moral rule is: do not do to people (animals, enviroment) what you would not like from people to do to you. As simple as that!
And I can tell you that I never in my life felt need to offend, to steal, to kill, to cheat, to drink, to drog myself….and I did not do such things.
On the contrary: I am very compassionate, I help people a lot all my life, even when the price is high for me (for example in a war situation), I love enimals and feed abandoned dogs and cats…
I am responsible for my enviroment, and am trying not to polute this planet
I am a tender and good father (I generally love children), and grew a wonderful daughter, who is, first of all, responsible, and a good human being.

All that (no reason to lie, I do not know you!) without gods!

When my time comes (soon, probably, as I am near 70), I will die with smile on my face, knowing that what I left behaind me was GOOD.

    I do not need gods.
Wouldn’t eternal paradise be too boring?
And, as I told, if there is a monster of god as descibed in Bible, to put me in hell such as I am, I do not mind to burn: while burning, I will spit to the face of the monster, and smile.

I also understand you don’t like God judgments against sin. I will not bother to defend how God judges sin since that gets into to silliness. I am only a small man on a dot in the universe. Who knew that today’s primates would still be impressed by the same sheep herders comic books today, still wearing turbans as to not temp the raping angels of heaven into fornicating with our women and subjecting us to their demon giant offspring. Your infinitely just god who punishes for an eternity those who descended from the people who killed one man cannot exist. Your infinitely omnipotent god who knew not that he was creating billions to suffer in hell cannot exist. The only existence accepted is accredited to the modern day animals capable of worshiping such a monstrosity.

    1. The Christian god, for other would need to be handled using their own mythologies, cannot exist due to any of the qualifiers you give it to make it supreme. An infinitely perfect being stays perfect and doesn’t change things by creating the cosmos and man. An infinitely omnipotent being knows that by creating man, he’s actually condemning 99% of all men to hell (assuming only one faith is the way) and therefore can’t be infinitely merciful or loving. An infinitely just god doesn’t allow the infinite suffering of souls in hell because they didn’t recognize him as the way. A perfect being isn’t so cowardly that it needs so badly to be worshiped or loved. In every way your god is a petulant, sadistic, pathetic, cowardly, inappropriate, self absorbed, insecure, contradiction who absolves you of your responsibility of your sins; which by the way takes care of our infinitely moral dilemma. Your faith in whole is just a dated, self honoring, honor stifling, goat scapeing, plagiarized mess; and as followers you may have spread aids and other diseases by discouraging the use of condoms, murdered by voting away the rights of women, murdered by spreading your beliefs to third world countries, murdered by waiting for god to cure disease, stifled intellect by forcing your canon into the class room… I could go on but I won’t. I certainly don’t expect this to make you think for yourself; just as an explanation of my previous post, which you asked for.

Interesting presuppositions. First, your 99% figure and second, that you, but a fallible man, can rise to the perfectly absolute understanding of the mind of an infinately Holy, infallible, perfectly Just creator of the universe. You would have to claim just that, to say you know what you just stated. You don’t claim that do you? Of course not, how foolish it would be of you. So then, thank you for stating your opinion.

“An infinitely just god doesn’t allow the infinite suffering of souls in hell because they didn’t recognize him as the way. A perfect being isn’t so cowardly that it needs so badly to be worshiped or loved.”

Thats mans purpose in life, to worship the creator God. Thats why we exist and this is the very dilemma of man. There are only 2 ultimate choices in this life. You either except christs punishment on the cross for the remission of sins and enter eternity worshipping the creator God as your intended destiny or, deny it all and die in your sins and suffer eternity without Him. He is the creator right? Does He not have the right over His creation? How arrogant you are to think otherwise.

“In every way your god is a petulant, sadistic, pathetic, cowardly, inappropriate, self absorbed, insecure, contradiction who absolves you of your responsibility of your sins; which by the way takes care of our infinitely moral dilemma. Thank you for expressing your hatred. Sounds like you made your decision already. It looks like you are a confused individual as to the last parts of your statement here. Here is some Scripture to refute your whole post.

Rom 9:17 For the Scripture says to Pharaoh, “FOR THIS VERY PURPOSE I RAISED YOU UP, TO DEMONSTRATE MY POWER IN YOU, AND THAT MY NAME MIGHT BE PROCLAIMED THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE EARTH.”
Rom 9:18 So then He has mercy on whom He desires, and He hardens whom He desires.
Rom 9:19 You will say to me then, “Why does He still find fault? For who resists His will?”
Rom 9:20 On the contrary, who are you, O man, who answers back to God? The thing molded will not say to the molder, “Why did you make me like this,” will it?
Rom 9:21 Or does not the potter have a right over the clay, to make from the same lump one vessel for honorable use and another for common use?
Rom 9:22 What if God, although willing to demonstrate His wrath and to make His power known, endured with much patience vessels of wrath prepared for destruction?
Rom 9:23 And He did so to make known the riches of His glory upon vessels of mercy, which He prepared beforehand for glory,

Without any judgment, please read a few pages and pay particular attention to case number 7, for it sounds identical to what I see here. And why all the anger and hostility towards a God that you believe does not exist? Your own Voltaire’s last words are recorded as well, and his countenance changed from his atheism.

Why doesn’t God reveal himself personally to everybody? (inb4 catch-22)
    ——————–

Its called faith. If God revealed himself to everyone, then there would be no need for faith.

The religion if Christianity is as much about a lifestyle as well as having faith in God. Christ, if you believe he existed, was a man of peace, and that is the basis of his faith. His name was not Jesus Christ, he was Jesus of Nazareth. He was not white as portrayed by the Mormons, he was of Mid eastern decent. Jesus was also a Jew who was disenchanted with the temple.

Like all religion, Christianity is mostly myth about a man who was the Son of God and died for our sins. Perhaps in a very troubled time in human history the mere fact that the deciples of Christs church told the story of how Jesus died for our sins was enough to give them strength.

I personally think of the 23rd Psalm when I am troubled. It gives me great comfort.

All the above being said, Faith is a truly personal thing, and religion should not be crammed down others throats.

Dear _________ (insert a patient, understanding, open-minded person’s name right here)

If God creates the world where everybody obeys him
Is this just robotic love? Would you rather? Or have someone love you because they really loved you?

He create this world to allow mankind to make a choice. Sin or not sin.

Man makes sin, all the earth was affected by it. Diseases, working (toiling from earth), birth pains, battle with satan, and many many devastations was caused by the sin.

Why you ask? God is so holy, our sinfulness makes us so dirty.. so dirty.. We are separated. Of course! We are so dirty, we are stench to him!
To be separated from God means death, we are broken, grace is broken…

Sin is so horrible, it makes us stuck in cycle. We don’t want to choose God at all. Why? We are drowning in sin, we do what we want to do. We procrastinate, we get mad at the stewardess who ask us to turn off our phones, we hit our dogs, we shout at our parents, we delay…

We are stuck in a never-ending sin cycle…

What did God do? You are shouting at God saying, why did you do this? Why didn’t you save us?

You know what? It’s like a someone who just bombed a school, got into a death-row, then he shouted at the judge. “Why didn’t you free me if you can?”

That’s right. You have no right. Nor does God has any obligations to save you. You were asking about all the tragedies in the world happening. Yes, it’s mankind’s fault.

Our sin blinds us. We have free will, but of no free will to choose God. Why? We can’t, we don’t like God at all. Sin is nice, is it not?

But God outstretched his arm to people he choose, to give them “grace.” He choosed out of many, not because they are “nice”, not because they tried, just because of HE choosed them. It’s beyond our thinking why He choose. He can use the killer (Moses), the liar (Jacob), the coward (Abraham), the adulterer (King David), the widow (Ruth), the Jew (Paul), the Asians (John Sung), the westerner (Luther).. The weak, small, strong, bodily, and many more. It’s all up to Him.

    So, what is that grace?
That is the grace to be able to love God. We are free, but we still sin, because we are still in our earthly bodies. But God’s people have an energy of life different from God, mind you.. Real God believers, not fake ones that gossips of each other, think it’s okay, then say “Amen.”

So back to the option part.
The first world HE created so that mankind can choose, and He may act accordingly.

The second world, the new world, HE created for those who truly loved Him. True Love.

So you are asking me; Is it possible if all mankind actually loves God? Yep. It is. But too bad we already flipped the coin, got the tails.

It would be a-okay for Him not to save us in the first place. But we humans sometimes don’t get it.
    One of you must have seen this cliche stuff;
A kind person has this cool peppermint lozenges, they give it to this lucky guy/gal. Then you protest; “Why can’t I have it too?”

None of your rights to have it. None is God’s obligation too. He does want to save mankind, but we have falled to sin. Our initial choices play part on what happened in eternity.

    Oh and for those empirical evidence lovers;
ex nihilo nihil fit (Nothing came from nothing).
    -Parmenides

Yup. That’s basic law of rationality. Like, come on. We need a uncreated existence (God), to create everything. We need that so something exist.

Why is there something instead of nothing?
Because there is an existence that doesn’t need to be created, that created everthing. Cut that short: There is God.

Why is there nothing? (We wouldn’t be here):
    Because there is no God.

Energy and matter cannot be created or distroyed. Just read those theory of relativity and Law of Conservation. Besides, natural process can’t create that. And you want to create something from nothing? That just looses common sense.

    Other stuff:
The Bible is probably the most critized books in history, but ironically one of the most best resourced book ever. If you are not a biased historian, please just

If you said that “Jesus did not even once state it in the Bible that He was God.”
Man where are you??!! He said it so clear, the Jews nearly stoned him. He claimed Father as if He was one with God. So is other statements.

If you were asking if Jesus can’t be proved by science. OF COURSE NOT, IT’S THE WRONG METHOD.

Did you believe Washington exist? Yes. Why? Because of the TESTIMONIES in historical proof. Jesus is also a historical figure.. You want to confine it in a laboratory? You can’t!! It’s misplaced!!
    I mean like *facepalm*

    Okay, Im done. Thank you~
