Sagan’s premise is kind of hysterical, because the entire point is that in a universe NOT made for us, we nevertheless have an island home.

Seriously, this entire website is one big Epicurian ripoff. Try reading some Lewis, or some Chesterton — the “Problem of Pain” is an ancient theological issue that. If you took it seriously you’d see that there are some pretty common — and very solid — responses to what you seem to think is some sort of religious trump card. It isn’t.

I suppose you have some evidence of God then.

I have always been a fan of Sagan. He spoke of “Cosmos” with great reverence, enormity, variety and aliveness but nevertheless scoffed at the idea of a mind behind it all. It was always fascinating to hear him lift up “Cosmos” and its magnificent but then always turn back to “Accident” as the creation of the marvel he held up with such great delight.

Carl knew who was buttering his bread.

as obvious and wonderful as this entire website is, christians will never “get” what you are trying to explain here. because if they were intelligent enough to understand it, they wouldn’t be christians in the 1st place.

religion is & will always be a tool used only to control the unintelligent. i think sometimes we must face the fact that this world is filled to the rim with unintelligent people [who actually believe in magic/faith/fairytales] and simply move on.

The fallacy of Ad hominem rather than solid, well reasoned arguments is not a sign of intelligence.

Fact is, for many Christians, we have reviewed the arguments of this site and they are old, weak, theologically inaccurate and worth any more consideration. We do not come to out beliefs frivolously.

Choose one and I would be glad to demonstrate.

“for many Christians, we have reviewed the arguments of this site…”

Ahhh…But how to reason with someone who is true to faith. You of faith must fit the facts to the framework of the belief. The christians posting here are so varied, stating things like ….there were no witnesses so the earth is only about 6000 years old….. Dinosaurs and humans co-existed….. Noah’s Ark is literally true….. the past is unknowable and only the bible is 100% historically accurate. And you, Xenon, fail to correct their obvious errors. Classic example being the drivel of someone named Corey.

Keep the faith Xenon. I will admit to the existence of a deity once the evidence for such presents itself. In the meantime, let’s keep exploring, discovering, and trying to honestly figure things out. Also, gotta ask, why won’t god (Zeus, Odin, Yahweh, FSM, or whatever) just grow an arm or leg back for a christian amputee? Oh yeah, that’s not how he/she/it rolls.

    Who cares for “theological accuracy?
    What about logic, science…?

How is theology a measure of anything?

What solid, well reasoned arguments can you offer (finally!) that something like a god exists?

It is simple X. They don’t REALLY know what Christianity encompasses and as you see above they don’t care, yet here we have an entire site supposedly dedicated to disproving God. I must wonder, if they don’t care why argue against? If you must argue against, reason and logic would demand you be knowledge of the “enemy”? Just saying…

Exactly Otheist, which is why you arguments are horrible. You have not read and you have zero understanding. I hope you will wise up.

    False dichotomy.

It doesn’t have to have an intelligent conscious creator to not be an “accident”.

We know what every religion encompasses, believing in some sick death cult book doesn’t make theists any smarter than rationalists.
This site isn’t trying to disprove god; it’s just a fun place to go and snicker at stupid people. Also its good to stay aware of deluded people running for office and attempting to damage our secular constitutional rights. Which is the only reason (besides the human condition) we ever talk about such nonsense with such deluded people.

And no… you don’t come to your beliefs frivolously; as children, while your helpless, someone indoctrinated you and tortured you with threats of eternal punishment.
I am sorry for what they did to you.
I am sorry you are not strong enough to accept reality.
