A forthright description of psychics and psychic believers that should apply to all religious leaders and practitioners as well

Charlie Brooker pulls no punches when it comes to psychics and their followers:

When it comes to psychics, my stance is hardcore: they must die alone in windowless cells

I think every psychic and medium in this country belongs in prison. Even the ones demented enough to believe in what they’re doing. In fact, especially them. Give them windowless cells and make them crap in buckets. They can spend the rest of their days sewing mailbags in the dark.

The audiences that psychics prey on are equally infuriating, albeit less deserving of contempt. They’re just disappointing, like a friend who’s let you down. Often, they’re simply grieving and desperate.

I mean, if you want to believe in psychics, fine. You’re a dangerous idiot and I wouldn’t trust you to operate a spoon without putting an eye out … but fine. Your choice. Delude yourself silly. Your world is probably more fun than the real one. There’s no death, just an afterlife filled with magic spirits who like to communicate with eerie, ugly, otherwise-unemployable bottom-of-the-barrel “showmen” back on Earth.

But don’t accuse anyone with the temerity to question your sad supernatural fantasies of having a “closed mind” or being “blind to possibilities”. A closed mind asks no questions, unthinkingly accepting that which it wants to believe. The blindness is all yours.

The obvious thing about psychics is that they are lying, and provably so. The problem with their followers is that they are so gullible that they refuse to acknowledge the lying.

And so it is with all religious leaders and their followers. They are cut from the same cloth.

I am so grateful our nation was founded by Jefferson and the Hamilton and not Brooker and the Harris. Just goes to show that if atheist did get any real power if would turn out just like the USSR experiment. There is no other choice. It’s one thing to disagree with other beliefs, its another to desire to see them imprisoned. He didn’t seal with the atheist who believer is paranormal of which there are many. Maybe the just get probation.

I would like to hear in what way was USSR different than big christian empires, such as Spain, France, UK…?

In what way was any of still older empires in which, all of them, religions were in power, different than USSR(Roman, Persian, Maya….)?

And why did the founders of the USA carefully watch to strictly separate religion from state? They were more clever than many Americans today.
