“Churchgoers Hail a Miracle” on the front page of a major newspaper

This article appeared on the front page of a major metro newspaper on Monday:

Baby’s rally sparks joy – Churchgoers Hail a Miracle

Many Christians believe in the power of healing prayer, even if they’ve never witnessed it.

At The River Church on Holt School Road, members not only believe in healing prayer, they say it took place in front of their eyes. It happened Dec. 13 when a young mother brought her severely disabled 8-month-old baby to church.

The girl had been shaken by a babysitter in the summer and was largely unresponsive after emerging from a medically induced coma.

Kristie Hammonds of Raleigh brought her daughter forward to be prayed over by Pastor Sheryl Brady.

As captured on video and posted on YouTube, the girl, named Christiana, was lying in her mother’s arms with her eyes shut as Brady began praying. Soon a packed house began speaking in tongues, waving hands, shouting and pleading with God for the girl’s recovery.

Here is the video of the “healing”:

Question for Sheryl Brady: Why won’t God heal amputees? Will you heal an amputee?

    “Christs child:”

Consider reading the actual article. Here are a few excerpts:

    * Meanwhile, Christiana is still fed through a gastric feeding tube. She cannot hold her head up, and for the time being, she resides at the Hilltop Home on New Bern Road in Raleigh, a residential center for children with profound developmental disabilities.

    * Brady did not claim the baby was healed. As she explained to her followers Sunday, “Christiana was not in a coma per se that day.”

I’ll summarize: The baby wasn’t in a coma, and sure as hell wasn’t “healed” that day.

Something smells like elephant poo, and it’s coming from that circus tent in the video.

Hammonds said her daughter has never been more responsive. She’s awake for longer periods of time, seems to show some movement in her paralyzed right side, and for the first time this week made some gurgling baby talk noise.

Oops, you left that one out. I’m just glad the little girl is doing much better and that so many people cared about her. I’m glad her mom wasn’t an atheist with absolutely ho hope other than death and eternity in the cold hard ground. Yikes!

    “Burebista:”

Was God tired that night? Hung over? All he could do is rouse the poor little girl for a while, long enough to get His House into a frenzy, but he couldn’t *actually* heal the girl? What came next, He farted and rolled back over, and His “spirit” moved the crowd?

If “God” healed this little girl, He’s pathetic. Absolutely, unforgivably pathetic, and should kill Himself. He’s useless.

Was the little girl lacking in faith?

Atheists have no hope because we’re morbid, sad, lost souls with nothing to live for.

Wait, sure we do. We hope the dedicated scientists, doctors, and care staff continue their hard work to make outcomes like this possible. We just don’t give credit to fairies when they succeed.

I’m amazed people are so dense to think the kid was actually healed. Case in point, miracles are a myth.

Something aweful happens followed by a sliver of good. That’s religion’s formula for “miracles”. Perhaps a real miracle would have been smiting the babysitter instead of allowing him/her to treat the baby like an etch-a-scetch.

  8. on 23 Dec 2009 at 6:14 pm 8.keeyop said …

well, the baby’s not exactly healed “per se”, but some good came out of the gathering: people donated housewares, a year’s rent apartment, and a car! to the woman (who has 2 other children…).
the takeaway lesson for me is: PEOPLE change things (as opposed to prayer).
Unfortunately, she believes in “prayer more than therapy”… Well, gosh maybe god works through people there [in a hospital] too, kiddo.
Pretty scummy for sonic to lay her off after her kid was abused; gotta be more to that story.

Just because you sit here and laugh/make fun of the HolyGhost/talking in tongues you think it cant be real.Well its time to WAKE UP people because God

Yes, wake up people, Allah is alive, Budha is alive too, Ra has just woke up, Zeus is still sleaping, and dreaming Aphrodite, but will wake up in time, Quetzalcoatl is dressing, Krishna is already swimming…..

All of them will soon be on your disposal to heal you and to grant your other prayers, but if you need more, there is a few thousand of additional gods, all of them alive and ready to serve you!

Why would only christian prayers be granted? Aren’t we living in democracy?

In lack of arguments you believers are always getting mad and call people names.
I am not angry with you!
If not a complete idiot, sooner or later you will see how schizophrenic religions (plural!) are.
Start with gods listed, and thousands of others, and explain yourself why there are so many of them. And WHY yours is the „right one“, and “theirs” are not.
Explain to yourself WHY god have chosen Jews to start, and forgot/neglected 98% of earth population, and let 98% of earth population to invent and worship their own gods? What was so special with Jews?
1500 years passed before South American population first heard about a monotheistic god.
If muslims came first to America, American population would be all muslims today – is it correct?
Just, please do not explaint it to me, I know why.

Severin you made a claim about all the gods above. Explain yourself.

Also, can you back your 98% assertions or are you just making up more numbers?

“If muslims came first to America, American population would be all muslims today – is it correct?”

IF my Aunt had a package she would be my Uncle. You don’t want to start with your hypotheticals, They are useless and senseless.

  15. on 07 Jan 2010 at 9:46 pm 15.Severin said …

“Also, can you back your 98% assertions or are you just making up more numbers?”

    What is your estimation?
Today’s Israel has some 20,000 sq. km, it is only 0.016 % of the surface of world’s LAND (seas not taken in account, Australia too).
If Judea was 10x bigger then today (it was not, but let’s assume!), which makes 200,000 sq.km, how many peple can squeeze on this area? And it would be only 0.16% of land on this earth.
If Judea was 100x bigger than today (it of course was not), it still makes only 1.6% of entire land on the earth (without Australia).

The rest of the world was POPULATED, not empty! China, India, Mongol Empire, civilisations in both Americas were highly developed thousands of years B.C.
So were civilisations in Europe (Hellens, Romans). All of them had highly developed own religions when some Christ „apeared“ (or did not appear, speaking of time).
Estimation of population of the entire world about year 1 B.C. is about 200 – 300 millions.

So I overestimated a lot the participation of Jews in the population of the world when I said 2%, but what if there were even 10% of them?
WHY god forgot/neglected the rest of 98 (or 90)% of world population?

He did not, because he never was there.
MEN who wrote Bible wrote bullshits, because they just did not know anything about the rest of the world.
God would know it, if he existed and was there, and would probably take care about so big potential congregation.

“IF my Aunt had a package she would be my Uncle. You don’t want to start with your hypotheticals, They are useless and senseless.”

    Quite an argument!
You just don’t like to hear anything what could shake your prejudices.
Muslims came (from Africa, did you now that) first to Turkey, Persia, Indonesia,Pakistan, Aphganistan which all (and many others) had their own religions before Arabs conquered them. After Arabs withdrew, they all remained muslim!
If muslims came first to Americas, they would, probably promote chrisitanity (!?).

  16. on 07 Jan 2010 at 9:55 pm 16.Severin said …

“If muslims came first to Americas, they would, probably promote chrisitanity (!?).”

The point is that geographical distributin of religions depend on many historical causes created by MEN.
Gods had nothing to do with distribution of religions.
Otherwise we would all be christians, because the “allmighty one” would put his son in a more populated area of the world (China? India?), or would find better ways to promote himself worldwide.

How do you know? Do you think you are the end all when it comes to intelligence? How do you know what a god will do? Quite the ego there Sev.

  18. on 08 Jan 2010 at 9:46 am 18.Severin said …

    Thank you Xenon.
I have learnt a lot from you.
I know now why god choosed Jews to start spreading christian religion, not China or India.

My numbers about size of the area of Judea, compared to the size of the rest of the world were not made up. You have maps and geogrphic data to prove it (of course, if you believe earth was a globe at that time – maybe it wasn’t, you never know!).

Yes, I „made up“ (estimated) the population, based on today’s situation, and there I was wrong!

As god choosed Jews to start spreading christianity, It must be that the majority of world population lived on 0.16% of earth’s land surface, making the density of population of about 10,000 people per 1 sq.km..
Today’s New York has population density of about 1080 persons/sq.km, as there live 18,800,000 people on 17,400 sq.km.

I do not see any ruins of skyscrapers in ex-Judea, but they managed it somehow, I do not doubt. probably by standing on each other’s heads.

„How do you know what a god will do?“
Yes, in lack of arguments, we are always coming back to this same point: lord’s ways are misterious (beacuse they are stupid, illogical, inconsistent…..), but who are we to try to understan them and to judge them? Let a fool do foolish things, and smile, without questioning why.

This is the way most totally brainwashed believers are starting to “debate” when faced to rational assumptions (not claimed to be exact) and polite questions essential for debate.

    Like capricious children!

    What to say?
Most atheists are at least polite.

Xenon’s schizophrenia is obviously incurable. Or, maybe it not a question of schizophrenia, but of the IQ (of some 55-60)?
In the last case I deeply apologize! It is not his (her) guilt, it comes by nature.

I give up Mr. (Mrs. Miss.?) Xenon, but will not give up debating here, hoping that there are some curable „cases“ able to discuss rationally.

Sky takes different colors here, depending on weather, but it seems that in Xenon’s world it is dark-black all the time.

After reading the responses to this video, which has showed the power of the only True and Living God in action, and all the negative comments reguarding his authenticy. There is no question about his healing power. I am a Pediatric Nurse, I have seen numerous babies like baby Christiana. Who at the hands of an abuser have been sentenced to a life of a vegetative state, with no quality of life. This baby was truely in a coma with neurologic deficiencies. If this baby was merely asleep, then she would have awaken with all the activities going on around her. She would have awaken with Pastor Sherly Brady laying her hands upon her head and whispering the word of God in her ear. For you see, it is the word of God, that can heal, sustain the healing, prosper your existence after the healing and cause this testimony to prick the unbeliever’s heart.
God will allow you to see his power in operation, even to the unbeliever. He will cause his blessings to shine upon even the unbeliever, with the desire that the unbeliever will turn from his wicked ways and receive his son as Lord and Savior. Because God is Love, he wish that no man shall perish to HELL, but spend eternity in Heaven with him. That is why he allowed his only begotten son (Jesus Christ) to die on the cross for the remission of our sins. But first we must confess with our mouths and believe in our heart that God raised Jesus from the dead, then we are saved from our sins (Romans 10:9-10). However, he gives us a choice, he wants the decision to be yours. Please choose him before it is too late. The Holy Spirit (part of the Trinity of The Father, The Son and the Holy Spirit)will lead and guide you in the word of God to keep you in his will and righteous standing with God. For the devil desires to sift the unbeliever and unrighteous as wheat. He desires to Kill, Steal and Destroy the unbeliever’s life, keeping you from a relationship with God.
I could have used this time to be angry about the negative comments, of this wonderful example of God’s LOVE and POWER. But two negatives does not make a right. If you receive what I have written, as I was lead to do so by the God in me, I am grateful. But if you do not receive it, this does not change God ability to keep showing his awesome POWER of Healing and his faithfulness to his word as revealed to us through the Holy Bible. God changes not, he will be the same God he was yesterday, today and forever more. There will come a time when every man, believer and unbeliever will call upon the name of GOD!!!!!!!! For I have never seen an atheist in a fox hole or other forms of trouble-OMG.
I pray that this mother will keep the world updated about Christiana’s progress, because God will get the GLORY and PTAISE, from this child’s life, as she learns to eat, play, ride her bike, swing in a swing, become a great scholar and all the other things that were spoken over her life by Pastor Brady, but most importantly, everything that God has planned for her life, even before he knew her in her mother’s womb. May the Peace of God be unto you.

There is no way a hospital would let someone take a baby in a coma away when it is on a feeding tube. It is clear that the baby was just sleeping and this was a hoax.
God does not exist, so therefore something that doesn’t exist doesn’t have healing powers.

Pre Note: I am a Real Christian in the fact that I believe that Jesus was and is the son of God and he is the only way into heaven. I have confessed my faith in him a long time ago and still hold to it.

Now onto what I have to say about this.

One week after the alleged miracle she him-hawed around and all but admitted that there was no miracle that day. The attached video has some pop-up comments that cant be avoided. Sorry but I could not locate one without them.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U30TvWXO59c

As far as sleeping in a service it can and does happen. I see adults sleep all the time in church.

Recently while searching for a new church to attend we visited a church that one of my wife’s friends goes to. As it turns out it was sanctified Baptist church full of showboats and charlatans. Granted there were a few truly spiritual people in there but most were not and you could spot them easily.

Now to get to the point. Within 10 minutes of the service starting after we sat down from singing, my 8 year old fell asleep and stayed that way until we were a block from the church an hour later. That day there was at least one real work of God. He kept my child from having to see the scary side of when people go to far.

As far as I am concerned Pastor Sheryl Brady is one of those charlatans. I’m sure some of the people in her audience (note the use of audience, not congregation) believes in her. If God wants a child to live he will do it without the touch of an over decorated and painted individual to do it for him. God does not need us to heal, we need him. Get it straight people.

You can agree or disagree with me, it does not matter. God will continue to lead me away from these types in search of the real word.

“I go to church to hear the Word of God, not the noise of man”

I enjoyed seeing all the comments posted. God gives us all the right to choose. He will not force Himself on us. but He does suggest that we choose life. we are all entitled to our own opinions. and for those who argue about Christianity. Christianity is all about faith. it is not just about what we see. I do not profess to know everything about God and religion but I do believe he is real. when I listen to people of other faith I do not criticize but I pray them. somehow we all believe something for a reason. however, I believe there is a right way if we are confused on what to believe we should just pray that it is revealed to us so that whatever faith we have would be pleasing when the day comes for us to answer for our lives. for those who don’t believe just try it. ask God to reveal himself like I said earlier he is a gentleman he will not force himself on you but if you read and study more about him you will understand his ways and what pleases him. from my understanding and my relationship with God I believe that he just wants what is best for us. just as I believe in God I also do believe in satan and I believe he is the author of deception and illusions and wants us to look at life totally different way than what God intended for us to. god bless us all.
