When the religious become absolutely disgusting

Here is an excellent example of a situation where a million religious people have become absolutely disgusting:

Facebook Group ‘Praying’ For President Obama’s Death Passes 1 Million Members

Utterly disgusting on so many levels.

Hope and Change: “Most young adults today don’t pray, don’t worship and don’t read the Bible”.

Good news from USAToday:

Most young adults today don’t pray, don’t worship and don’t read the Bible

If the trends continue, “the Millennial generation will see churches closing as quickly as GM dealerships,” says Thom Rainer, president of LifeWay Christian Resources. In the group’s survey of 1,200 18- to 29-year-olds, 72% say they’re “really more spiritual than religious.”

And:

Among the 65% who call themselves Christian, “many are either mushy Christians or Christians in name only,” Rainer says. “Most are just indifferent. The more precisely you try to measure their Christianity, the fewer you find committed to the faith.”

Read the whole article. It is heartwarming.

The insanity of Christianity rises as high as the governor

Unbelievable:

Texas lawmaker: Obama is ‘God’s punishment on us.’

Linked from that article:

Beck explains “the plan that [God] would have me articulate, I think, to you”

That Christians would listen to these men, and believe that any “God” is speaking to him, demonstrates the insanity.

Yes: Bring the pope to justice

It is so obvious that it should require no discussion or debate:

Bring the Pope to Justice

Detain or subpoena the pope for questioning in the child-rape scandal? You must be joking! All right then, try the only alternative formulation: declare the pope to be above and beyond all local and international laws, and immune when it comes to his personal and institutional responsibility for sheltering criminals. The joke there would be on us.

Not only has the pope never read the law, he has never read the Bible:

Go ahead, explain it

If you are religious, offer your explanation. If you are rational, offer yours:

If this post ends in 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 or 9, then God doesn’t exist…

Who is right – the religious or the rational person?

The rational person speaks:

For all of those that want us to stop showing images of Muhammad because it offends the “good” Muslims.

The religious person responds:

“Good Muslim” response to “You know what offends me?”

Who is right?

Provoking People

This video demonstrates how people can be mistreated by the media and made to look like idiots. It goes in all directions. In this case the recipient of the treatment is a Muslim, but atheists can get this treatment as well:

The insanity of Islam, again

It doesn’t get any more insane than this. The message: “If you don’t do what we like, we will kill you”:

Radical Islamic Web site takes on ‘South Park’

The posting on Revolutionmuslim.com says: “We have to warn Matt and Trey that what they are doing is stupid and they will probably wind up like Theo Van Gogh for airing this show. This is not a threat, but a warning of the reality of what will likely happen to them.”

It is not clear what the founding fathers were thinking when they came up with the first part of the first amendment. If they could see what “religion” stands for today, they would never have included it. Religion has become a safe harbor for insanity.

The difference between religious and rational people

An interesting way to look at the different values of religious and rational people:

Atheistic liberals ARE smarter, but for a funny reason

But let me offer a slightly less smug and rather simple possible explanation: highly intelligent people are simply playing a different mating strategy, and it’s one that doesn’t go well with being conservative or highly religious.

But whay are atheists smarter?

Why Atheists Are More Intelligent than the Religious

Islam’s Plan to take over Europe

The first 45 seconds is a little slow, but from there the demographic analysis of what is happening in Europe is very interesting:

As the population shrinks, so does the culture. As of 2007, the fertility rate in France was 1.8, England 1.6, Greece 1.3, Germany 1.3, Italy 1.2, Spain 1.1. Across the entire European Union of 31 countries, the fertility is a mere 1.38. Historical research tells us these numbers are impossible to reverse. In a matter of years, Europe as we know it will cease to exist.

Yet the population of Europe is not declining. Why? Immigration. Islamic Immigration. Of all population growth in Europe since 1990, 90% has been Islamic Immigration. France, 1.8 children per family. Muslims: 8.1. In Southern France, traditionally one of the most populated church regions in the world, there are now more Mosques than churches. 30% of children ages 20 and younger, 30% are Muslim. In the large cities such as Nice, Marseilles and Paris, that number has grown to 45%. By 2027, 1 in 5 Frenchmen will be Muslim. In just 39 years, France will be an Islamic Republic.

A follow-up on Spanking

A follow-up on this post on Spanking:

Christians: why is there so much child abuse in your religion?

This article in Time Magazine states that spanking creates problems rather than solutions:

Study: Spanking Kids Leads to More Aggressive Behavior

Compared with children who were not hit, those who were spanked were more likely to be defiant, demand immediate satisfaction of their wants and needs, get frustrated easily, have temper tantrums and lash out physically against others.

The reason for that, says Singer, may be that spanking instills fear rather than understanding. Even if a child were to stop his screaming tantrum when spanked, that doesn’t mean he understands why he shouldn’t be acting up in the first place. What’s more, spanking models aggressive behavior as a solution to problems.

How contemptible can religion get? Try reading this story

How contemptible can religion get? Here is one person’s story of the “talk” with his parents, telling them that he is rational rather than religious:

My children will kill themselves, and other things my parents told me this weekend.

At this point, they both hit me with pascal’s wager, but with the awesome twist of instead of betting my soul, I was wagering my childrens. I told them I was not keeping religion from them, but that I was teaching critical thinking and reason as the highest value. My mother, with tears in her eyes, levels an acusing finger at me, and says “The kids that try to view everthing through reason are the kids who kill themselves, and you need to be prepared for when that happens.”

One question: Why is it considered evil when rational people try to help religious people heal their delusions, but it is OK for religious people to go door-to-door “spreading the news” of religion and pulling these kinds of stunts?
