Our dream in the United States is to be just like Holland

The rational, atheist dream in the United States is to be just like Holland:

Quote from the video:

It is very interesting to see that Holland, especially the Catholics in Holland, has transformed from one of the most pious countries in the world to one of the most secularized states in the world.

It can happen. It can happen in a finite amount of time. This is our dream for America.

Fundamentalists are liars, and therefore they love liars like Palin

A perfect explanation for why fundamentalists love Sarah Palin in less than 300 words:

Good quote from Emily’s signature

“Having a debate with you [creationists] is equivalent to playing a chess match against a pigeon who knocks over all the pieces, takes a crap on the board and flies back to his flock and claims victory…”
-some dude on amazon.com

Another good quote:

Eskimo: “If I did not know about God and sin, would I go to hell?”
Priest: “No, not if you did not know.”
Eskimo: “Then why did you tell me?”

How does a 15-year-old boy become this badly deluded, and come to believe such nonsense with such conviction?

Hi, my name is John199312…

A really good question – How delusional am I?

An intelligent Christian visits the web site and asks…

So How Deluded am I?

It shows the power of intelligent thought, religion and internet forums.

World’s oldest Bible fails to mention resurrection in Mark

It’s an amazing revelation:

World’s oldest Bible published in full online

It offers different versions of the Scriptures from later editions of the Bible, notably in St Mark’s Gospel which ends 12 verses before later versions, omitting the appearance of the resurrected Jesus Christ.

“This 1,600-year old manuscript offers a window into the development of early Christianity and first-hand evidence of how the text of the Bible was transmitted from generation to generation. The project has uncovered evidence that a fourth scribe – along with the three already recognised – worked on the text; the availability of the virtual manuscript for study by scholars around the world creates opportunities for collaborative research that would not have been possible just a few years ago.”

The reddit comments are interesting:

there are two new chapters in the NT – The Shepherd of Hermas and the Epistle of Barnabas.

This does go to show that the modern Bible can’t be taken as the literal, complete, authoritative word of God, as it has changed through the years, at the hand of man.

Charlie Love, Professor of Geology/Anthropology

Charlie Love, Professor of Geology/Anthropology

[Charlie Love] renamed mankind about 12 years ago for his students. Linnaeus called us Homo sapiens back in the 1700s, meaning in Latin, “Man, the wise”, and sadly, the name remains the same to this day. Charlie thought that “wise” was just a little bit premature, so he renamed him what he felt was more accurate: Homo creemythicus ritualensis hypocriticus – “Man, who believes in myths through rituals, and is a hypocrite about them”. These, he feels, are the only notions common to all mankind.

It seems there are other notions common to all mankind:
1) Language
2) Music
3) Toolmaking
4) Anger, violence
5) Superstition

Christians are jerks AND God is imaginary

This true story is so sad on multiple levels:

The Christians and the wallet

Short version: Atheist finds a wallet. Atheist returns wallet to rightful owner. Owner is effusive in his thanks and starts praising/thanking God as well. Owner introduces atheist to wife, who is also praising God. Owner and wife realize their benefactor is an atheist. Atheist instantly turns into a loser.

Moral of the story: Christians are jerks because they refuse to acknowledge reality. What reality just demonstrated to them is:
1) Atheists are honest people.
2) Atheists do the right thing.
3) Their good fortune is the result of atheist morality.
3) God had nothing to do with the wallet returning.

Bring Your Gun to Church Day

Church holds “Bring Your Gun to Church Day” because what better way can you spread God’s love than with a gun?

Ky. Pastor Holds Guns-In-Church Service

“They go together … you need to protect yourself and God would want you to protect yourself,” said Thomas. “Unfortunately in this day and time, a firearm is an efficient way to protect yourself.”

WWJD? Since Jesus is imaginary, people can imagine anything they want.
