How about ACORN? They tell their people how to vote constantly and even how to traffic children. As long as they are tax exempt you don't have a leg to stand on.

I do agree with yup on principal but we don't live in a society of principles.

I think that the moment a pastor tells his/her congregation how to vote on a specific measure, he/she has given up the church's privilege to tax exemption.

If all he/she does is condemn homosexuality or whatever behavior from the pulpit based on words in the bible they should keep the tax exemption. But the moment he/she brings up how to vote that nullifies the message's religious nature and makes it political.

These churches were obviously telling their members how they should vote, so of course they should lose their tax exemption. Same for the mormon church that led the effort in California for the Yes on 8 campaign. There should be harsh tax measures in place to discourage churches from running political campaigns.

well... he is right... Pastors and churches DO have a right to speak about biblical truths from the pulpit without fear of punishment....

BBBUUTTT being tax exempt is NOT a right it is a privilege with rules attached to it!
so removing it from them would not be punishment..it would be following the friggen law.
