I’m in Australia, we’ve had a universal Federal Government run health care system since 1986. We pay a 1.5% tax surcharge. This is paid by every taxpayer. High income earners (over A$200,000 pa) pay 2%. While not perfect, our system provides a professional level of care. you can, if you choose to do so, take out private health insurance and be treated in the ‘private’ system. Many choose to do so as service maybe faster. On the wjole though, it works well, we enjoy the worlds second longest behind Japan)life expectancy. The American problem is one that is the result of not biting the bullet earlier, addressing the problem. Give Obama a chance. Seems to me (way over here) that there is a crisis in american health care.
