You mean what you believe to be fantasy? Lets ignore the millions over time who became great scientist, physicians, leaders and educators who believed in God.

When anyone thinks s/he is in possession of the whole truth, bad things happen. Reasonable people may believe in a scientific theory, but they are open to changing their minds when new evidence is discovered. Those who think they know the entire truth will never change their minds. Those who fly planes into buildings, bomb abortion clinics, shun, beat or kill gays, picket soldiers’ funerals… –they think they know the whole truth.

Eventually most Greeks gave up Zeus, Romans gave up Jupiter, Scandinavians gave up Thor, Egyptians gave up Isis. The problem is that they replaced their old gods with new ones, so not much changed.

If everyone could look at one’s own belief system the way s/he looks at other religions, one might see the folly of one’s own irrational beliefs. Dave Barry said that no matter what your religion, everyone else’s seems crazy. To an atheist they all seem crazy.

Independent, reasonable, rational people search inside of themselves instead of outside of themselves for their emotional health. They rely on reason, not fantasy, in order to grow intellectually.
