This is a great site. And about time!!!!
Christians need be be confronted all the times because they represent a great danger to what little democracy we have. They believe in the great dictator in the sky and so at any time they could vote in a dictator even worst than George Bush if he or she used enough bible verses. Christians have no real sence of right or wrong because they don’t think critically… they just beleive. And what do they believe in a horrifying ugly concept of a god with a gun to your head. Do as I say worship me , tell me you love me or I’ll blow your brains out. Nice god.
One of these blogers Jesse Santoya said “what if their really is heaven or hell? Are you going to take the chance.” So according to Jesse I could come to his house and put a gun to his head and force him to hang out with me day and night , tell me that he loves me, do whatever I say and this bafoon would think I am a great guy. Any ration person would try to escape and call the police to have me arrested. Not Jesse He’d run around and tell everyone what a great guy I am. So if there is a god like the one Jesse is so happy to promote then over half of his creation is going to burn in hell forever , but being in heaven with an asshole doesn’t sound like an attractive alternative . This is not to imply that verses are in conflict. Rather, some verses, when stripped of their context are misconstrued. for example, many pluck a portion of an Old Testament verse (“…an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth…” and brandish it as a rationale for taking revenge when the passage containing the verse offers no such justification. On the contrary, for example, the Bible says: ” ‘Vengeance is Mine’, saith the Lord.”

“God so oved the wolrd..” etc. may be plucked from context and used without problem because they do not run afoul of other verses or the spirit of the Bible; the Bible is a book that can be fully understood only by those for having the spirit of God, poured freely into those who love Him, accept His salvation and accept His Lordship; the Holy Spirit does not fill an unclean vessel and if you have not the salvation afforded you by Christ, you are unclean in a sense; God says “you will find me when you seek me with your heart soul and strength”; implicit in that is “mind”; it does not appear that the atheists posting here have used very much of their minds to search for God; because had they done so they would know what almost everyone else in the world knows intuitively, including the young child and the allegedly mentally handicapped, though they may not be able to express it as I am expressing it here; and that is, that God exists; God meaning a nonphysical, i.e. spirit being who is necessarily outside the bounds of the physical realm including time, space and matter, caused these to come into being from nothing physical and is able to perceive time at once, destroy matter and eliminate space; He is the Almighty, the Omniscient and Omnipotent Master of all, the Ancient of Days, the Everlasting One, the Great, I am; and needless to say, He is not always easy to understand.

It is amazing to see how far someone will go to do this. it makes me laugh at all the different scenerios. â€œYOUâ€, whoever you are, have gone the extra mile to make people believe that GOd doesnâ€™t exist. You must feel really threatened by the existence of God and how it is so obvious in everything around us. From science to creation. How can God not exist? That is obsurd. I give it to you. it is far easier to not believe, serving God and believing is done in faith. God is real, God does answer prayers, and EVERYTHING works for good to those who love him. Ok, lets say God, heaven and Hell donâ€™t exist, and you are right, its all a story made up, But what if it is ALL TRUE? You willing to take that chance? Donâ€™t be silly. Seek the Lord and his righteousness while it still can be found. I give it to you though, to all of you. It takes alot of courage to not believe.

You can’t compmartmentalize the passages? Then why do I see people holding the sign John 3:16? Are they not compartmentalizing the passages? Of course I have no idea if any people writing here have ever done that but it seems to be an all too often occurring trend for people defending the bible and quoting desirable passages from it to then criticize others who are doing something with different goals in mind. If I were to quote a passage which either doesn’t make sense or promotes violence from the bible, I am sure I would get the argument that it was either a mistranslation or taken out of context. In fact this happens quite often. Being a translator, I do know the problems with translating a prose, and the possiblities for errors to creep in over the vast amount of time that it has been in publication is great. However, I have never heard an atheist or person of another religious faith ever complain that it must have been a mistranslation when there are passages in the bible which promote something desirable such as “loving thy neighbor”.
