Agnostic One, I'm an agnostic atheist myself and agree with what you said up to the second to last sentence.

As for the existence or non-existence of a deity -- Allah or God or any of the Hindu pantheon, ... -- most of the religious people don't promote themselves as the critical evidence of the deity/deities they worship existing.

(It is true that the Christians sing 'they will know you're a Christian by your love', yet that song seems to be as far as it goes unless the person is naturally kind and caring to begin with.)

Because of that, and that most people are good most of the time, if they wanted to tip me to the theist side of the equation, they have to deal with facts. So far, the religious texts have some useful parts, but are not flexible enough to address reality. Instead, they promote dogma and stifle knowledge. This in itself I take as a moral intelligence test; if you ignore reality in favor of dogma, you've failed.

The point of this article is about perspective.

If you happen to be a Christian in the U.S. and see a Muslim extremist declaring war because "Allah" told him, you would think his religion is nuts.

If you happen to be a Muslim in another country and see a Evangelical extremist declaring war because "God" told him, you would think his religion is nuts too.

It's like fighting fire with fire. This is so ridiculous. It is because of people like Warren why I doubt the existence of God. I know there are good Christians out there, but its not enough to convince me.

yes, it's true. Mother Theresa was not a true believer.

you would have survived just fine without your lord. just as millions of of ancestor worshiping Chinese people survive. just another set of baseless beliefs.

it's an addiction. just as an alcoholic might not readily admit their condition, the religious mind is too invested in the delusion to come free from it.

it's not that it "didn't work out" for me. rather, it's that I learned how to think rationally and then it did.

Anonymous, once again ... I don't care about your theology or your religious books. This is not a pi$$ing match over who is a better person, though statistically that would be atheists not theists. What I care about are your actions.

What are you doing about the bad actions done by Christians in the name of Christianity?

If the answer is nothing, then just admit it.

Side note: While I don't want to claim her, Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu in her heart knew there was no Christian god. It horrified her, but she knew it. If she knew more, she might have had a better life and served others with greater compassion and not in the quest for suffering.

We do not have deluded minds, just because you have turned away from it doesn't mean every christian has, most christians feel saved, joyful, happy! I had a friend at church, who the first day i met him, stole everything from cards, candy, even sports equipement maybe, he knew it was wrong, but didn't think that it was a big deal, but after a few days at my church, he started turn away from it, the transformation didn't happen instantly, but he did never the less. Looking back to when my family, like most chinese families, worshipped our dead ancestors and made sacrifices, I feel so lucky that I was young and can't remember that we did that, because I don't know how I would have survived without The Lord, thinking that I would just grow, get a job, have a relationship hopefully, and then just die. Us christians, I admit, have done more than terrible things, but if you also looked at the good things we have done, it will out number the bad things. Mother Teresa for example, just gave and gave and gave, of course partly because she was a good person, but also I'm guessing because being a catholic, felt a need to give and give and give. Now I'm not saying that Christians give the most, I have met quite a few non-religous people and felt their kindness. Hermes, being a Christian means that we do make mistakes! It doesn't make any of us better than you, in fact I'm pretty sure there are more than a handful of atheists that are more caring than my whole church, but it also means trying our best to make the world a better place. Don't say that we're deluded just because it didn't work out for you, most Christians have felt saved, happy, joyful. I still feel guilty myself, quite a bit actually, for the things I have done, the people I may have hurt. But I have learned to apologize, move on, and start anew.

anon (or "actualchristian" if you prefer...),

if all your friends were jumping off a cliff to their death would you?
again, just because something is popular does not make it right. the majority of early humans worshiped the sun. was that right? it sure was popular.
right now Beyonce is #1 on the US top 40 charts. she must be the best musician then, right? If you don't like Beyonce, then you are wrong!
(this is precisely what your comments about the current popular god sound like to a person who has studied the history of religion - the main difference being that Beyonce is a real person.)
when a small group of people believed that the earth was spherical were they wrong simply because the majority thought it was flat?

nobody here is trying to prove the bible wrong. It does that all by itself (read it and see for yourself!). my goal is only to help people awaken from the delusion. I was once a believer myself and lived a life of fear and guilt because of it. I now see religion for what it is and live a fuller, more joyful life. it is my wish to help others make the transition from deluded thought to rational thought.

So, are your views 1/3rd right and 2/3rds wrong? What about the Christians you disagree with? Does this lower your %? Is that the way your religion works? Wow, as time goes on it looks like it is slowly becoming more wrong. Is this the direction you'd like to argue from?
