I’m headed to a first communion for a friend today. Not him, his daughter. When he invited me, I didn’t know what to say. I just kinda said I might be there. Then later, when I was sitting with a mutual friend and i mention it, he being a catholic, nearly flipped. He had forgotten about it and started to panic.

Communions, the first time that a child eats a blessed wafer and is told that it is a piece of a dead Jew, is a huge deal. Its one thing to loath this stupidity, but how do i hate the people i love?

im going today. I will hang out, tell her congratulations i guess, and hand her a card with some money in it.

What else am i supposed to do? I love my friends. Even thought they believe totally screwball stuff and engage in behavior that lends credibility for dangerous religious activity.

I’m torn. By the time anyone reads this the event will already have taken place. But feel free to weigh in on what you would do in the same situation.

i dont care if religious folks reply, but they wont be very helpful. Its not like they know what its like to go to an atheist event or anything.

If we put our selves in harms way intentionally, then there is no garrenty that God will save us from dying on Earth. God wants us to make smart decisions, such as, “buckling up our seat belts”, or looking both ways before crossing the road.
Jesus is our father, and he will protect us if we are willing to protect ourselves and others too.
